Hobbit begins!
Aug. 19, 2008

TheOneRing.net is reporting a scoop that the scripting process on the Guillermo Del Toro directed adaptation of THE HOBBIT has begun. One of their tipsters writes that:
“Ive just got home from an early screening of Hellboy II The Golden Army hosted by PopcornTaxi at the Greater Union Cinema in Sydney, where Guillermo did a telephone Q & A from Berlin after the film…The last question though related to the Hobbit - and Guillermo said that although there was nothing to add at the moment - he can say that scripting has started - and he described the process as something ‘beautiful.‘”
One really has to wonder what is beautiful in Guillermo Del Toro's head. Because it sure as shit isn't what regular people consider it to be. I'm pretty certain that his dream chick has wings, a mythic destiny and a culinary predilection for the stewed brains of the damned. Put that description on Craigslist and I bet you ten bucks Del Toro's people get in touch with you. But whatever, man. I'm not judging.

Extra Tidbit: Del Toro once dated the Loch Ness Monster. She never got over it.

And yes, there is another 'bridging film' planned that will be set after HOBBIT and before FELLOWSHIP. No one is really sure just what the hell will happen, but I'm sure it'll kick ass regardless!
OT: How the heck do I make a profile image appear here in the talk back? I have no idea!

Does Jackson's involvement mean we'll be treated to more Weta FX eye-candy or is del toro bringing in someone else?
I can't see why anyone else would get the job but it is hollywood and strange things seem to occur.
Also, weren't there early rumors of two films with del toro? The Hobbit and another, extrapolated from the indexes, to connect it all with the Fellowship? Has that been confirmed?

hilarious..
I'm absolutely pumped for The Hobbit, especially since The Lord of the Rings are my favorite movies of all-time... but I'm a bit nervous about Del Toro. I think he's talented beyond belief and perfect for the middle earth realm, but isn't anybody a bit worried that we're gonna see the same creatures he uses in pans/hellboy/hellboy II like he uses over and over again? Middle earth doesn't need another creepy guy with 143 eyes.
I think he'll do awesome, just expressing my concern. I don't want The Hobbit to feel like a del toro movie, like all of his do... I want it to feel like a Lord of the Rings movie, and I think he can do that.
