Leo says "Don't Vote!"

Sick of all those preachy celebrities telling you to go out and vote? Well they finally got the message and a group of celebrities - Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Jonah Hill and Sarah Silverman among them - are asking you to NOT vote. As Jonah puts it, "I've never fought a war on drugs. I haven't done shit on drugs except play 'Halo 2.'" Well said, my man. So what spurned Leo to beg you to stay home and be lazy and Sarah to talk about herpes? You'll have to see for yourself...

George Carlin had an interesting take on this:

George Carlin had an interesting take on this:
"I believe if you vote you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around...they say if you don't vote you don't have a right to complain...but where is the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent people and they get into office and screw everything up...well you are responsible for everything they have done...you caused the problem...you voted them in...you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who, in fact, did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain as loud as I want about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with."
It really scares me that there are people who will watch this video and vote. I'm sorry, but I can say with a lot of certainty that 99% of the celebrities in that video are liberals and the vote they're trying to get is for Obama. If they were true to just "getting people involved" you'd have other celebrities such as Sly Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Miller, James Woods, Jon Cryer, and Stephen Baldwin in the video, all who support McCain. This is a farce. They are targeting young people, who most will tilt Democratic and see the younger, "sexy" candidate Obama and vote for him.
Yeah, I'm voting for McCain. However, I have no problem with people that are voting for Obama, as long as they are informed and know the reasons that they believe he will improve America(other than "change" and "hope"). I feel the same way for McCain supporters. I know that voting is one of our basic rights, however it does really scare the hell out of me that there are people that don't know anything about what's going on and believe they "have to vote." Some people have no business voting.

So...
So, who stands to benefit the most from the Ignorance Vote? Well, it's no secret that the news media is largely slanted to the left, and those poor, unthinking, celebrity-swayed people are likely to believe just any old thing they hear on the news, because "that's The News, that's official; they don't tell you only what they want you to hear, they tell the Truth." So, if "The News" tells them that Obama is the better choice, then the Ignorance Vote will go to Obama. "Well, Kanye West told me to vote, and Katie Couric told me to vote for Obama; and y'know, I want my voice to be heard and all, so I did what they told me."
For the same reason, I hate those election signs everyone puts up in their front yard. They cannot possibly be useful for any other purpose but to get the Ignorance Vote, based purely on name recognition. Election signs are for the ignorant voter, period. This video takes it much farther, because the signs only bring in ignorant voters who are voting already; this thing will bring in the supremely ignorant. I mean, it's a sound election strategy; but at it's heart, it's nothing but a devious Liberal plot disguised as a call to civic pride and responsibility. I say, "Liberal plot" because as I pointed out, they are the ones who have control of the media, which is essential for the plot to work.
One more thing, the argument that you should vote JUST so you have the right to complain later is pretty lame. On a certain level it's right, but some on here make it sound like that is THE reason they're voting. SkyNet wrote, "don't say you don't care if you actually do." I agree. But neither should you say you do care if you actually don't... and vote JUST so you feel justified in complaining later. Because c'mon, when you hear people talking about the condition the country is in, do you police them with a "hey, pal, before you say any more... did you vote?" Nah, ya don't. So if you don't actually police people on it, then your decree doesn't really mean anything, so why bring it up?

You'd be better served to say you voted for the guy who played Huggy Bear when asked than saying you stayed at home to transfer cheeto stains from your fingers to your dick, while watching a Rock the Vote video trying to beat it off before the hot chicks disappear and Forrest Whitaker shows up and you pull your dick off when trying to run the video back.
But yeah, that video went on too long.

However, I do know people for whom not voting IS their vote. Some are very disgusted with the state of politics in this country, and they feel that the choice between the two parties is a false choice. By not voting, you are making a statement as well. I personally think that is a defendable position.

it's also our right to choose not to vote.
don't be pressured into making a decision you could regret the rest of your life.
use a condom. every time. also, don't vote.

because if you don't vote... that means you had no say in the way this country has gone... and if you have no say when the election comes, than you should have no say later on when whichever ticket wins may be screwing up.
It's like saying "I DONT CARE" loud and clear... so if you don't care, than you don't care, which is all well and good, but don't say you don't care if you actually do. You can't have your cake and eat it to, as the old adage says.

"If you don't vote, you can't bitch about the country or anything about it later"!
like now.. i will bitch incessantly about the way this country is run, but that's because i had NO part in the current president being elected to a second term (nor a first, but thats cuz i wasnt old enough in 2000, but i would have voted Gore, even though he sucked also)
So you gotta vote.. cuz you wanna bitch about the country, you can at least say "it aint my fault, i voted for the OTHER guy"! or if you did vote the bastard ruining the country you can hang your head in shame, as is the case with everyone i know who voted for Bush!!
Jonah Hill was very comical in the video!

Please. If people don't want to vote, I don't blame them. Not EVERY vote counts. I feel sorry for the Republicans on either coast, or the Democrats in the mid-west. Yeah guys, get out there and pretend like you're gonna make a difference. Thank God for absintee ballots or I'd be pretty fuckin' screwed in my voting.
Also...where was John Voight or Dennis Hopper in that video? Oh, wait, they're Republicans. God forbid if anyone researched any of these celebrities political affiliation they'd be conflicting. We wouldn't want to have a mixed bag here or nothin'. Afterall, we gotta support the "Emerging European nation" in America that Bill Maher is so concerned about. Whew. For a second there I thought we were united.

Your country has a terrible voter turn out, I mean atrocious. I can't remember the actual stat, but fewer than 40 per cent of the eligible population actually votes. Democracy is supposed to be about the voice of the people, how can that be when people don't vote or say they have the right not to. That's ridiculous and irresponsible. Voting is a privilege, but I guess you'll just think I'm trying to tell you what to do.
I think this is great. Whether or not the actors in the PSA actually care what you do or don't do is irrelevant. Just vote, take part in the electoral process. It does make a difference.

love that quote and it is so true. people have the right to vote OR NOT to vote, simple as that, forcing or shaming people to vote who know nothing of the candidates or their policies is worse than not voting. and this all assumes you even agree with any candidates policies at all.

Maybe it's because politicians are only good and spitting out bullshit, but I think it's silly to put your trust in someone you don't even know to fix the problems of the world. I think it's stupid to trust politicians period. Even by doing all the research like Housecoat man (below) I still don't trust any of them. Elections are nothing but one giant popularity contest anyway where the parties involved will say and do whatever it takes to get the most votes. All those "I approve this message" ads that rape your television just proves my point.
Ghandi once said: "YOU must be the change you wish to see in the world." I stressed the you because I'm tired of seeing people plop all their problems on somebody else's table and telling them to fix them. If these actors who get paid ridiculous amounts of money just for pretending (and when you get right down to it, that's all acting is, pretending) would put their money to some GOOD use, instead of trying to get people to do what THEY want them to do then maybe they could preach a little. I know some of them donate a lot to charities, but you ever notice how they can still afford multiple mansions worldwide? Follow Paul Newman's example and do some good in the world people.
But hey, if you think voting is the best way you can help out, then vote to your hearts content. I don't believe it is and I don't give a shit if anyone thinks that's wrong. It's MY RIGHT to think so.

Your vote, as you hopefully have seen this past week effects everyone in the world. It does mean something, it does count. So stop bitching about how you hate celebs preaching to you and actually listen to the message.
Canadians and Americans both need to vote and get to the polls. Canadians, vote for whichever party up North you want, Americans, vote for which ever candidate you want. Doesn't matter, but you better do it.
You know that young voter turnout is lower than ever and that the last American 2 elections could have gone the other way if geeks like us voted like we campaigned for a Serenity movie or for the full uncut Fanboys. And I'm not trying to pick a side here in this election, but I think even most Republicans would have preferred Gore and/or Kerry to Bush.
And in the time it takes to write a reply to this post and tell me why I should get off my high horse, you could have registered already.

This is such condescending, preachy, guilt inducing shlock that turns voting into the "trendy" thing. They might as well say "Vote for Obama" at the end because we all know where they stand voting wise. So to get up there and act like voting is NOW a big deal is just insulting. I'll bet they would pull the ad if they knew it was motivating young people to vote for a party other then the one that they are all so obviously supporting. If it looks and smells like Propaganda...then its probably a PSA made by Hollywood celebrities.
I feel sorry for people who need an MTV type video to motivate them to practice their constitutional rights. I'm registered to vote, I take voting very seriously as I haven't always lived in the States. I research the history of the parties, the issues, where each candidate stands on them and where they intend on leading the country and then I get off my ass and cast my ballot. Perhaps if half of these celebrities had done the same thing four or eight years ago they wouldn't be so guilt ridden as to have to make such shlock. (BTW I don't know their voting records, I'm assuming based on the emphatic tones in their voices).
PS. The whole thing should have been one minute long max.

These are people who in their heart of hearts know that their job is fairly out of proportion to the money they make and they feel guilty that they aren't "doing" something of value to help others. So they make you feel guilty about the issues.
People criticize televangelists for their "turn or burn" guiltings, but how are these "celebrities" any better in promoting their causes?
