Could Frank Martin, the titular "transporter" from the popular action series THE TRANSPORTER, be gay? I'd be lying if I said I didn't think the films were a little homoerotic but I didn't think Jason Statham's character was literally a homosexual. Turns out though that's exactly what Louis Leterrier, director of TRANSPORTER 2 and later THE INCREDIBLE HULK, had in mind. Leterrier said that he shot the second TRANSPORTER film with Statham as a gay character saying, "If you watch the movie and you know he's gay, it becomes so much more fun." True... but why would he do that? "Action fans in general are pretty homophobic. You see these tough guys who say, 'THE TRANSPORTER, that's such a great movie!’ If they only knew they're really cheering for a new kind of action hero!" Unfortunately for Leterrier, TRANSPORTER 3 director Olivier Megaton didn't agree that Martin was gay (or at least thought him bisexual) and let him kiss his co-star Natalya Rudakova. So what do you think? Would it change your opinion of the TRANSPORTER franchise if you knew Statham's character was gay?

I think that 80 percent of the people on this site are flamers. Sure, it's OK that Frank Martin is gay. Why not start making action flicks where the hero gets rewarded for his good deeds with a big sausage at the end. Those kind of movies will flop and make less money than Cloris Leechman prostituting herself on Hollywood Blvd.

He sounded like a buffoon.

I'd have respect if they announced this before the movie was released, just to see it's reaction with the public. But they tell you after its been out for a while so that they keep the money coming in (assuming they think a gay action star wont sell tickets).
Reminds me of the whole Dumbledore story all over again. Heck, remember all those Frodo and Sam jokes.

Personally, I think the TRANSPORTER films would have been SO much better if they established that Frank Martin was homosexual from the start. The romance stuff they threw into the films did not fit at all (see TRANSPORTER 3 for evidence) and we could have had Statham doing more of what he does best; kicking ass and taking names.

Now, does that mean Frank needed to be flamboyant or make out with another dude in the flicks? Of course not. It would have been interesting to see, but my point is there are a lot of gay people out there who you wouldn't no were gay unless they told you or you saw them kissing another dude (or chick).

So I repeat: It's not a big deal. Get over it.

MAybe in your gay world people want to see them but the mainstream cinema fan will pass.I hope that someday everyone gets their type of action star in movies but as of right now and the foreseeable future, that is just a pipe dream. People like SeymourClearly and gstapleton are cowards. They wouldn't have the courage to be gay even if they were. Gay people (like myself) NEED an action star on their side blowing shit up. Just like we need more mainstream gay romantic comedies and dramas. Why? It's not a political reason. It's because the ones they put out every single weekend really don't speak to us. Shame they went in the other direction with this one. I've never watched a Transporter movie but I might have if they had actually gone further in this awesome seeming direction.

That would actually greatly increase my appreciation for those films. Finally the gay community would finally have an action star to be proud of, and upon retrospect, it totally makes sense. Ahh well....

I think it's great that the original director intended for the character to be gay. A kick ass action hero who's gay may help chip away at the rampid homophobia in this country.

It's a shame that Prop 8 passed in California.

The movie would've been a lot better if he was gay. The love story is just horrendous. They need to bring back Leterrier to give the Transporte series the ending it deserves. Oliver Megaton..what a fuck up. You could even tell in the interview on here that Statham didn't care much for his directing style.
