Judge Dredd again?
It might be an understatement to say that the big-budget Sly-powered JUDGE DREDD movie didn't turn out especially satisfying (at least to fans of the comic incarnation), but we may get another chance at seeing The Law personified filling perps with ballistic justice on the big screen.
Dredd rights-holders 2000AD and Rebellion have teamed with production company DNA Films (SUNSHINE, 28 DAYS LATER, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) for a new flick featuring the futuristic Mega City One's infamous peace officer as he dispenses instant violent justice. The plan is to begin production some time in 2009.
Before we get too excited, keep in mind that this is actually the third time we've heard Dredd would return to the big screen. Way back in 2001, Rebellion announced plans for new back-to-back JUDGE DREDD flicks, one involving corruption in Mega City One's legal system and the other pitting Dredd against the notorious supernatural Judge Death. Then in 2004, a new production company reported they were scrapping previous scripts and starting from scratch. Only Psi Division knows if it'll actually happen this time.
Extra Tidbit: I think Jason Statham has the perfect jaw for the helmet. Thoughts on who else could play Dredd?

I don't think the Stallone version is that bad, but Dredd's world is a rich creative source, and could do with being revisited.
Despite its flaws, there was a lot to like about the old version. Apparently they even tried building real Lawmaster bikes but with tyres that thick they had an impractically large turning circ...

Or Daniel Day Lewis, just imagine that for a moment. Yeah...that would be...different.

Don't be too hard on Dominic West. I think his accent sounded a lot like some of the characters on the Sopranos.

He's brit, he's big, a good actor and accepts roles because of the "fun" factor (he's the villain in the new Punisher film)

Putting a known actor in the role, that actor will not do the role if their full face cannot be seen. That was one of the problems of the Stallone movie.

I think Own is the right height, has a deep enough voice, and has a strong chin (he might need to melt off some of that baby fat on his face though). Statham is a shrimp, but he'd be good for Johnny Alpha.
