Jackie Chan is Miyagi
Jackie Chan knows that a man who can catch a paycheck with chopsticks can accomplish anything... or at least the repackaging of your memories for financial gain.
The legendary martial actor will be mentoring a new childlike companion (no, not Chris Tucker), playing the wise Mr. Miyagi in a remake of THE KARATE KID. His student this time will be Will Smith's precocious offspring Jaden Smith. The movie will, of course, "examine the relationship between an older martial-arts expert and a young boy who is picked on by bullies".
The crane-kicking and leg-sweeping will be directed this time by Harald Zwart (THE PINK PANTHER 2, AGENT CODY BANKS), and will presumably not feature any appearances by Ralph Macchio, Elisabeth Shue, Martin Kove, William Zabka, or the vengeful spirit of Pat Morita. But it should.

Beijing is the setting for 'KARATE' Kid?
Jackie Chan is portraying Mr. Miyagi????
Why don't they just rename the film, 'Kung-fu Kid' and have Chan play...well...'Mr. Chan' or 'Mr. Mou'...?
That's just like casting Chinese actors/actresses for a geisha film in Japan...(Oh, wait).
:-)

As far as my experience goes with "nostalgic" movies, they seem to gain momentum over the years as being the greatest movies I've ever experienced in my life simply because I connected with them at a young age. It isn't until I go back and watch them later that I realize how ignorant I was as a kid (there are a few exceptions to this). If I had the knowledge of movies back then that I do today, I would have blasted that movie.
Be honest, wouldn’t you?
Talk about raping your childhood . . . Here’s the epitome of having your childhood raped (figuratively, definitely not literally)—going back to watch movies that you loved as a kid, only to realize how shitty they were.
Bottom line . . . Hollywood is trying (and probably will succeed) to cash in on a simple concept directed to a certain demographic. What is old to us is going to be brand new for someone else. We have a choice whether to watch this film or not . . . I certainly will not.

Sounds like a really bad 80s flick that tried to combine a western and martial arts.

will smith jr. bad
im just entertained at the thought of the scene where mr. miyagi saves danny's and kicks the bullies asses. interesting to see if jackie would do it up like one of his awesome fight scenes, even if he is getting long in the tooth

1)the karate kid name
2) will smith's fame (surprise....welcome smith jr.!)
I might be interesting but i dont think it can capture the 80s look of a feel-good martial arts film. Karate kid was great because of the chemistry, likeable characters one could relate to, and the messages it conveyed...and that was NO...

Shame...

My niece and nephew are going to go batshit over this. Bottom line. This movie is going to ka-ching like a mofo.
They make their money from who goes to the movie, not who doesn't.

But if this new Karate Kid is taking place in Benjing CHINA, where as KARATE is strictly a Japanese martial arts, then the old adage of "All the Asians are the same" lives quite strongly in the Smith family.

Tuxedo was on the TV the other night. Jeez. Really Jackie that was ghastly. You were once so cool. Use your Jackie Chan-ness for Good, not Evil.
