LOST PLANET is a movie based on a video game by the same name from the always awesome Capcom. Apparently it has been revealed by their Head of Character Contents Business that they plan to spend some $150-$200 million making the film. From what I can gather, in the game a character called Wayne, aided by a group of action movie stereotypes, must do battle on a frozen planet with the indigenous aliens, using their thermal energy to survive. There is also a broad sub-plot involving his father. David Hayter (X2) will write the screenplay.

The coolest thing about this project though is that the main character Wayne is modeled on international bad-ass Lee Byung-Hoon (A BITTERSWEET LIFE). The weakest thing is that for some reason HALO still is not being made. I know, the two don't really have much to do with each other but it's Friday and last time I checked, that's a pretty hot conversation starter right there.

Source: Empire

Extra Tidbit: Lee Byung-Hun will make his American debut in GI JOE as Storm Shadow.

The game was pretty good, definitely a rental, wouldn't buy it though. The story for the game was just ok, nothing about it screamed "MOVIE MATERIAL". What i don't understand is how a game that does so-so in sales gets a 150-200mil budget for a movie...oh and who's going to direct this one? i vote Uwe Boll.

Halo movie should only be made if it was CGI and straight to DVD with a lot of added story. Either that or just make a RED VS BLUE movie.

This is going to suck. The game was terrible and, to my knowledge, no one bought it. Someone is getting fired.

only game ive ever sold
Im all about trying to get good games screen times if it has a proper script and a competent director...which has never happened.

The closest thing has been Max Payne... it wasnt awful, wasnt great, but it was a decent film

Good ideas but its a game that feels like it never passed the first stages of production...this is a BAD idea and will just be a shitty, forgettable action flick

a GTA movie?!!! Really???!
Those who say "we need a GTA movie", do yourself a favor and go rent the gangster and high crime movies we already have. Once you do, you'll realize that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, new that a GTA film would bring to the screen. GTA takes its inspiration from other films- Goodfellas, The Godfather, Heat, Donnie Brasco, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Scarface, etc.-- there's NO REASON ...

Just because it makes for a great game doesn't mean it would make for a great movie.

I haven't played the game, but the concept sounds awful. If this thing gets made, aside from changing the overall story, they should at least change the main character's name. Sorry to any of the schmoes out there who are named Wayne, but that name doesn't really scream sci-fi/action hero.

This game is terrible! How could Hollywood spend over $200 mil on it! It isn't even that big of a game to warrant a cost that high. I doubt this one will even cost half that to be made.

Yeah, what's up with the HALO movie anyway? I mean, Peter Jackson is on board (or was, I suppose) it can't be THAT hard to get made.

first of all, SoCalsFinest11, oh how wrong you are, first, i dont think there needs to be a GTA game, those are gangster/Mob games, we have plenty of good and great Mob mafia movies, yeah, GTA puts more humor in their story than the average Mob movie, but there isnt really a need.

Gears of war has a non-important story if their ever was one, people liked the game because of the gameplay and the head stomping, not to mention the Chainsaw kills. the first game, there wasnt a story at all really, you had one single mission and you spent the whole game trying to do it. the second game was better but still, like Doom, the story was never important at all.

i agree on Bioshock though, truth be told, even though i think a Halo movie should be made, i would see a BioShock movie before it any day. the atmosphere of that game, the story, the backgrounds of the time and the characters, that has Hit written all over it.

but still, a Halo movie should definitely be made, space battles against the cultists of a crazy alien religion, superhuman soldiers bred for battle, epic war across different planets and ancient alien weapons. Peter Jackson wants in, for God's sake, make the movie already.

oh yeah, never played Lost Planet, also never heard anyone ever gush about how good the story is. and 200 mil for a game like that??? i dont think so.

ya right.
transformers had a 150$ mio budget, just as a reminder.
so, no. a video game movie will not have a 200$ mio budget, if not even the most successful director (bay) doesn't get it.

i just had to log in to say how stupid is this?
who's the moron who approved this budget?
or maybe he's getting some commission from the $200mill for a game that not many really give a shit about.

no wonder the economy's gone bust!

The only game I care to see is a good adaption of GTA. It would be so easy to make. A movie about a gangster/thug trying to make it big. Simple. Gangsters movies all make money if they're good. Get a good to great director + writer, and you can use any of the storylines of the different GTA games or even create a whole new one with the general concept of a guy killing people and stealing car an...

Get a good to great director + writer, and you can use any of the storylines of the different GTA games or even create a whole new one with the general concept of a guy killing people and stealing car and causing havoc in a city. Make it gritty, violent, vulgar and funny (like the games). The games are also among the best selling franchises of all time and a pop culture phenomenon so you already have a solid audience for it. Something half as good as The Departed would be awesome. (A Martin Scorsese film would be even better but that won't happen)
There's no way it would fail if it's a good movie.

Its..
Prolly being done like their last movie RE Degeneration where they are doing it themselves and probably be a dvd/bluray release. Same with how Square did with the Final Fantasy Advent Children movie.

You telling me that nobody wants to see Mass Effect the movie?

Some studio must have a death wish
Have they gone insane or maybe they live in a world where they haven't heard of the movies, Doom, Super Mario Brothers, Wing Commander, House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, DOA, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, I can go on forever. In fact the only [link] that has made over $100 million domestically was the first Tomb Raider 8 years ago.

Not gonna happen
If a PJ-produced Halo can't get off the ground, I wonder how a game of that caliber (good but not much else, and not GTA or Halo sales figures either) would. Especially with that godawfully high price tag.

With this amount of money comes the promise of a well done film, which is just what the videogame to movie genre needs right now.
This could be the one that makes Hollywood say, hey maybe you can make a good videogame adaption, like X-men did for comic book movies.
