Five new teaser posters for GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA hit the web today and they show off Duke, Ripcord, Snake Eyes, Scarlett and The Baroness. They're good but they didn't really try to do anything out of their comfort zone with these. Look tough, wear black, brandish a weapon and that's about that. While I think Rachel Nichols as Scarlett is fulfilling just about every childhood dream I had, I still can't wait to get a shot of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. They're keeping that close to the vest, but I'm hoping for a reveal soon. Check out the posters below!

Yeah, if they only have these suits as, like, their end-of-the-movie ass-kickin' outfits, that won't bother me too much; it's just the fact that I expect they'll screw it up and use these throughout. I just no longer have any confidence in Hollywood's ability to know what we want to see, y'know? Like with Transformers... I kinda hated it. I mean, it was sorta cool enough that I enjoyed it in...

I just no longer have any confidence in Hollywood's ability to know what we want to see, y'know? Like with Transformers... I kinda hated it. I mean, it was sorta cool enough that I enjoyed it in spite of its faults, but any time I think back to it, I just think of cyclones of metal while they're transforming... and cameras so shaky that I could barely see the Transformers that I went to see in the first place. So, while it was KINDA almost sorta nearly decent, lol, it was still really nowhere near what I would really liked to have seen. And I just expect this one to go the same route.

And oh yeah, I'm not saying the ten years advance is a bad idea, I'm just saying that I really, REALLY hope to recognize the characters when they're on screen, and there won't be any kinda thing to explain it away if we can't. Like, there was an uproar when the X-Men had their all-black suits instead of what they wore in the comic, but when all was said and done, you could still recognize them, because they had other physical traits to distinguish them by. But the Joes seem more ordinary, and might not stand out without their trademark outfits... I dunno, maybe I'm wrong about that. It's still POSSIBLE the movie won't suck, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't... pleasantly surprised, but still surprised. lol.

By the way, sorry for being a bit abrasive in that last post; I was in a real foul mood when I wrote... still am! lol. But not because of this, just a bad day... still no excuse to be an ass, though, so... sorry 'bout that, Niro929.

OK...
Ok i see the point as to what the fanboys wanna see, and im using the term fanboy loosely because i am a fan as well. But look at the characters involved in th movie: Duke, Scarlett, Heavy Duty (should have chosen Roadblock), Ripcord...all except the ninjas had just regular fatigues on. They weren't anything that special. Now if Shipwreck, Quick Kick, Deep Six, or even Barbeque were involved i ...

They weren't anything that special. Now if Shipwreck, Quick Kick, Deep Six, or even Barbeque were involved i can see the argument as to wearing something like the original costumes can come to play. The point i'm getting to now is that these are PROMO posters. Who's to say they aren't wearing fatigues similar to what they originally wore throughout the movie? No one because the only pictures and posters that have either leaked out or released are very few in that they just so happen to have these black suits on. I mean the x-men didn't wear their suits the whole time but all the posters and promos had them wearing them. Optimus Prime had lips, Bumblebee was a new camaro, and Megatron was a jet. No one had problems with these changes, well not until the movie was released or a trailer was shown, then people were fine with it.

Everyones jumping the gun and assuming this is gonna be horrid when all we've seen is a few pictures. That is the point i'm trying to make, this time without the sarcasm. Us as fans should just be excited that a live action film about our favorite childhood toys is finally being made. We should just have hope that it turns out to be a great movie regardless of what little we have seen. Or hell, lets wait for the trailer during the super bowl. Maybe my mind will be changed after that.

Oh, and as for the future thing. With all the high tech weapons and other stuff that will most likely be used in the film, making it 10 years ahead still makes sense, doesn't matter what suits they have on or not. If they're using high tech shit we don't have today then it pretty much has to be futuristic.

Doesn't matter if it's explained as being the future -- hell, the black suits would MAKE SENSE today!... YESTERDAY, even! The point is that it's not my G.I.Joe. If you like it, fine; but don't think that "10 years in the future" is an excuse to change my characters into something unfamiliar.

Hell, you can put ANYBODY on the screen and CALL him, "Duke", but unless we who grew up with these characters actually RECOGNIZE him, then he's just somebody being CALLED "Duke", he's not really Duke. I don't understand the idea of making a movie out of something, and then changing it to a DIFFERENT thing, but calling it by the same name, and that's supposed to be satisfying. Fans want to see a movie made of characters they like, because they want to see them come alive on screen... otherwise there's no point... not for a fan. They don't wanna see imposters calling themselves by the same names.

If some woman you don't recognize walks into your house and says, "It's me... Mom.", that don't mean she's your mama now! I know the Joes; if I look at the screen and I CANNOT identify them, then they are not the Joes. Period.

It's that simple, and they couldn't even get those two sentences right. Maybe they ought to try getting the basics down solid before extrapolating and making stuff "more realistic".<...

More realistic -- what a laugh. 90% of the Joes wore combat fatigues or dressed in accordance with their branches of service. What could be more "realistic" than that?

Since most of you skip past the reading just to look at the colorful pictures you might realize that the story for this flick takes place 10 years into the future. Yes. TEN years in the FUTURE. So therefore the futuristic suits and the futuristic guns kinda make a little bit of sense. If you want the originals you also should just have them shoot blue and red lasers at each other at close rang...

(except the BATS) And also have planes and tanks blown up with everyone able to evacuate without a scratch.

Kinda lame isnt it?

Yeah it is.

So the moral of todays story is to just read the articles and wait see what they are trying to do to make this somewhat realistic, and that using original material isn't always the best choice.

Lazy weak ass costumes. At least Bay didn't make all the transformers black or grey. Desaturate the colors but keep some resemblance to the old Gi-Joe for God sake. Black has been done and is so 90s - Blade, The Matrix, X-Men. BORING!

The ONLY things that will get me to see this movie are the cast and the director.

Otherwise, a "fun" military movie (not war, mind you, MILITARY) in these times - new president or not - is NOT my idea of a good time.

Boring. Costumes are dull. Casting is dull. Posters are dull. This will be forgotten before it's even out of theatres. At best this will be mediocre, and likely full of pro war propaganda. No thanks.

The suit's look like the ones they wore in Starship Troopers only these are all black, I wasn't ever a fan of the show but from what I knew they wore camoflauge siut's right? these looks more like X-Men posters, anyways I don't tink I'll be aeeing this in theaters.

A break from costume debate
I'll be checking this out in theater, but I would like to add that I'm only watching it because I like Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Outside of his involvement, this movie has done nothing to peak my interest.

I saw the costumes a while back, but I thought it was some genius ploy to get the fans pissed off.

What are they trying to make G.I. Joe sexy now!? The old rags were fine because they were military fantasy and helped illustrate the characters and their specialties....I'm not gonna cry about it, but I have been waiting a looong time for a Joe flick...way to go shitty action movie ...

How about some effort?
The producers of this movie must not be very smart. When the fan boys bitch, you listen. We are the target audience, we are the ones going to and buying these movies. I mean if some people don't like it then fine keep it. However if the majority of the people tell you something doesn't work, you fix it. You don't keep blundering along hoping they'll come around. So take what made the G.I. Joe toys, cartoon, and comics great (the over-the-top, colorful, unique characters) and throw that out. Instead put them in matching plain black suits. Fantastic.

I might just give this one a shot...why not, I had almost all action figures when I was a kid. It looks cheesy...but then again almost everything in the 80's was that's why we like them so much I guess. I'm not saying stop the hate, I'm just saying Hollywood greenlit things worse than this and people supported anyways. So...I'll save my comments when I see some real footage.

Sorry, but there's so much wrong here I don't know where to start.

First off, the only real G.I. Joe is the twelve inch action figure. One guy, not a team. Make THAT a movie.

Next, why do they all dress like the stupid X-men? Sheesh.

And two chicks? G.I. Joe -- the most macho mo-fo in the world; the Ken's-ass-kicking, Barbie-dating, Kung-Fu-Gri...

I'm on the fence about this one but the posters instantly reminded me of The Matrix Reloaded posters with the faces chopped off on top

Sure. Why do it like G.I.Joe? Just because you're making a movie of these characters is no reason you should stick to what made them interesting to begin with. Nah.

So, yeah, I guess these posters are fine. It doesn't matter since I can already tell that I won't be seeing this thing. Yes, I grew up with G.I.Joe, and yes, it seems I would therefore have some interest in seeing a movie based on my favorite, FAVORITE toys as a kid... but since this movie is clearly gonna be anything BUT G.I.Joe, I think I can count myself out. So who gives a damn about the posters?

Oh, 'course it must be said that Scarlett is hot as hell, and Snake-Eyes looks bad-ass. But the movie will definitely suck ...probably in a manner not unlike Transformers.

Oh and mark my words, having been directed by Stephen "The Mummy/Van Helsing" Sommers, after it's been released, you're probably going to be hearing people refer to it by the title I've already given it: "C.G.I. Joe"!

Hell, "Van Helsing", which took place in... whatever century it took place in, was chock-full of CGI; you KNOW this one is gonna be lousy with it!
