Strike Back below!

With low-budget horror continuing to do well at the box-office, Sony continuing to develop RESIDENT EVIL 4. Our sister site, Arrow in the Head, is reporting some exclusive details on the development of the film. They're reporting that Patrick Tatopoulos, who just released his directorial debut UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS, will be in charge of the creature effects for the film and that they've hired Michael Lantieri (JURASSIC PARK 3) as their Special FX supervisor. Apparently the script, written by Paul WS Anderson, is darker than previous entries (if you can believe that) and will actually take place in Alaska (shades of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT?). Their next step is casting, which starts at the top with Milla. Securing her services is apparently the top priority now and afterward they will begin looking for a director (Anderson has already ruled himself out). Might I suggest Tatopoulos? If he's already working on the film, he's proved he can manage a lower-budget horror film and open it to big numbers. Why not give the man a shot? For more details, head over to AITH to read their full report on the RE:4 goings-on.

Extra Tidbit: I think they really need a good hook to get people interested in this franchise again...

I just really don't get it...
Resident Evil should have been one of the easiest video games ever to adapt... I mean it's a moody zombie story, how do you mess that up? They could have based it off one of the first couple of games and had a good story to work with, the bennefit of a pre-existing fan base and made it all work on a small budget. Instead they spend the time and money on aquiring the rights and then slap the series' name on a film that doesn't really resemble the story and characters the fans are familiar with and alienate a lot of their audience in the process.

I mean really it should have been sooooo easy...

yep reboot
I never understood why they didn't base the films on the games as the story and characters are already there. I never watched the third movie as the 2nd one nearly killed me, they couldn't have made a worse film if they'd have tried, I want to know who wants to watch this shit, because I grew up playing the games and I certainly don't.

Bunch of bullshit
They should reboot and that reboot should follow the first game. For once.

Reboot
They really need to reboot this series. If they adapted RE 1-3, Code: Veronica, 4, and 5 into movies, that would be awesome.

And to everyone saying they should just make 4 into a movie, it wouldn't work. No one would no who Ada is, etc. It needs the 1-3 and Code: Veronica to work.

Agree more with disposablepal
Lose Milla and the hack Paul Anderson. Got with the game and reboot this series. It wasn't very good to begin with, and I'd like to see something a little more faithful and good.

i completely agree with HoyleHaw
Lose Milla, drop the crappy zombie apocalypse storyline and get a good director, a good lead actor who can play Leon Kennedy (my pick would be Chris Evans as he really is age appropriate and looks the part with the right haircut) and just do the Resident Evil 4 story from the game. its got an eerie setting, crazy characters, evil conspiracies, and even a good bit of action.

I hope Patrick Tatopoulos does this I enjoyed the hell out of Lycans.

I don't care extinction kicked major ass. I just don't think of the resident evil movies in the context of the games and I am happy at the end of the day. I mean what do you guys want Resident evil the Legend of Jill Valentine.

I couldn't agree with Netforce more. Milla's version of this franchise is dead. Rebooting horror style is the way to go. Think Silent Hill.

With how Resident Evil: Extinction ends, I don't know how this franchise can go on. It needs reboot, definitely. Stick with haunted mansion and S.T.A.R.S. team from the first game and you got a horror/awesome haunted house/zombies movie.

Sometimes what works well with a video game is terrible for a movie. I'd like to see a Resident Evil movie that turned down the action scenes cut with heavy music and turn up the scares and tension.

My name is Alice...
These films are guilty pleasures to me and I'd love to see a fourth. I'm glad to hear that it's taking place in Alaska (an arctic setting is true to the games) and I'm crossing my fingers for Jill Valentine's return. Either way I'm definitely psyched!

These movies indeed blow goats...I've seen it.
The first movie was OK, but the plug should have been pulled on this franchise when you learn, in the second film, that Nemisis knows Kung Fu. Seriously? Kung Fu? Nemisis?

And don't get me started on the 3rd film. Ha! I've pooped turds with better dialoge...and special effects...hell...even acting abilities.

These games rock, so why is it so god-damn hard to make a halfway descent film about one of them.

Further more does anyone remember when Eddie Furlong was trying desperatly to make a Res. evil 4 movie based on the game where he would play Leon? How kick ass would that be?

Oh were have you gone...Eddie Furlong

1st was crap
I didn't bother watching the other ones.

Only good news is that Michael Lantieri is on board. He managed to direct with maybe a fifth of RE's budget a small horror flick called Komodo that got more thrills than all Paul WC Anderson's movies altogether (well, except for Event Horizon - I wonder what happened to him since then...)

I'm down for another Resident Evil movie, Mila is a bad ass bitch! and sexy too, what else can I ask for? I'm definateley looking foward to the fourth installment of this franchise, the idea of setting up the movie in Alaska is makes it even more anticipated, for me.

Um No..
I think all the movie sucked. They were horrible. It is true that while i enjoyed seeing characters from the games in the movies like Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield, the plots were stupid, the zombies were horrible, and the 2nd and 3rd movie were basically the same thing. I think they should try something new. If they are making a 4th movie, they should make it on the actual Resident Evil 4...

i wish they would learn something from the Resident Evil CG movie that just came out, it was really good and worked with the game story. Each live action RE film has been worse than the last, i'm sick of Mila in them as the last hope for humanity. Why can't they mirror the Resident Evil 4 movie with the Resident Evil 4 game? That game is one of the best games ever created. To make it into a movie would bring hope back into video-game-to-movie franchises.
