by: James Thoo Mar. 20, 2009

Earlier this week there were some whispers that the offer might be out to STAR TREK's Chris Pine to play Hal Jordan aka. The Green Lantern. Apparently, not so much. Collider are running the story that no such offer has been tabled. Previously, Ryan Gosling and Anton Yelchin have been touted as possible Lanterns. The movie will follow a young pilot who finds a green ring on a spaceship that has crashed on earth. The ring is often referred in the comics as the most powerful weapon in the universe.

Who do you guys think should play Jordan? I kinda liked Chris Pine...

A fan would do it right
I think Davis Boreanz would do a great job as hal Jordan. He did the vocals amazingly and He has confessed to being a GL fan.

I say give it to Jon Hamm.

He's got the look, he seems the right age and the man's a really, really good actor.

Nathan Fillian? Sure, if you want to DOOM the picture. He's pretty much television/box office poison if you ask me, whereas Hamm really knows how to draw in an audience.

well you're shit outta luck on your top pick, gosling is already out of the running. and no matter what the reasons are on whatever side that decision comes, its a good thing! he doesnt look like Hal Jordan, and he still looks 14 years old! I'm really sick of people saying Gosling could do this, do you people even read Green Lantern? honestly

I really like the James Marsden and Eric Bana suggestions. Ben Foster's one of my absolute favorite young actors but I don't know if I'd say he's right for Hal. Josh Brolin's a decent choice but he's a little old for a potential trilogy and I don't think WB would consider him since he's already Jonah Hex and those are their next two superhero films.

My top three picks at this point are probably Ryan Gosling, Aaron Eckhart and Chris Pine. Although Eckhart's probably about as old as I'd go for the role.

- Adrian Pasdar (heroes)
- James Marsden (x-men)
- James Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ)

I dont see Fillion as a given. Pine was a good idea for a younger Hal Jordan, but Hal wasnt so young in his origin (retconned or not). Josh Brolin is a great cast tho, I like that idea. And I lose Ben foster's work, but keep him away from GL please.

Josh Brolin
Barry Pepper
Ben Foster
Eric Bana

What makes Green Lantern interesting?
- Refer to Watchmen's Dr Manhattan.
GL has that same "almost God" like powers, but with the added free will, morals and doubts.
Lately in some comics he has featured as a villain because he's been trying to play God.

Tahmoh Penikett from BattleStar Galactica is my first choice, but I think Nathan Fillion would be a good choice as well.

Granted this is just my opinion (and obviosuly several of you disagree with me) but I think he looks a little old for the part (even though he's only 37 I think he looks olde). He also just doesn't seem ti have the right kind of persona. I know he can play a cocky hotshot, but it seems like it's usually more of a [link] cocky hotshot then a Tom-Cruise-in-Top-Gun cocky hotsot, which is more of how I picture Jordan (and incidentally seems pretty close to how Pine is playing Kirk). A much smaller factor is that I also just don't think Fillion really looks like Jordan. I mean Peter Parker and Bruce Banner might look like nerds but Jordan usually looks like a GQ model or something, so this is one of the few comic characters I'm actually fine with them casting a Chris Pine type as.

Chris Pine would have been good but I think they could do better

Nathan Fillion is a given

David Boreanaz after his turn in Bones where he has improved immensly since Angel, which I thought was horrible.

James Franco seems like he's in the area of what they are looking for. Relatively young, budding talent, lots of potential.

David Boreanaz. He did the voice for 'Justice League: The New Frontier' and I don't see why he wouldn't make a good live-action version as well.

I don't get the Green Lantern
And I don't think I'm alone. I've never read the comic but I did check out the character on Wikipedia. A guy with a ring of power? Seems a little too goofy for a major motion picture. Maybe as a kids movie.

If you're a fan, tell me what makes him interesting.

Meh...
I don't like Fillion, but that's my opinion...I just don't see him in the role. I actually thought Pine had the look, moreso then Gosling. I'm just glad it's Hal and not Kyle. Hell, I'd love if it turns into a franchise and we get some Hal goes berserk after Coast City goes to shit. Lena Headey is a good choice for WW btw, never considered her.

I still think Fillion would be out of his league in a blockbuster 150 million dollar budgeted film. It's just my opinion, I could be totally wrong and he could be doing some huge movies on screen five years from now, but I doubt it.

Well, dude, that's just YOUR opinion. Sorry but I, and a lot of other people, disagree.

Oh, and I suppose it's a good thing that GREEN LANTERN isn't a summer blockbuster movie either. It's being released December 2010. Besides, was Christian Bale someone you would stake a blockbuster franchise on before BATMAN BEGINS? Was Tobey Maguire before SPIDER-MAN?

Fillion is the perfect fit for Hal Jordan. He might be stuck doing TV and small film roles, but that's only because he hasn't gotten the right part that'll help him really break through. GREEN LANTERN will do that for him.

I think Chris Pine would be a great Hal Jordan. He's got the cocky attitude needed to pull off that role if he were offered it.

And are people still talking about Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan? Fillion doesn't have the acting chops to fill the shoes of Jordan. Nathan Fillion is an average TV actor, nothing more.

alot of people said Aaron Eckhart after playing TwoFace.. should play as Hal Jordan. I actually thought that would be a good idea, namely because i really don't like the idea of young model looking guys playing as major character... Brandon Rough aside as he WAS [link] that I've always loved the idea of Eckhart playing as Captain America....

Luke Wilson wouldve been cool MAYBE...Hell even Daniel from Ugly Betty or Captain Jack from Doctor Who... i saw their character names because i can't seem to remember their actual names... anyway...OH and as always...
