Earlier this year Latino Review ran a story that claimed that Jackie Earle Haley was in discussions to star as Freddy Krueger in the upcoming NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. A lot of time has passed but today Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Haley is in final discussions on his contract and that a deal could be announced as soon as next week. Now why should you take this as gospel? After all Bloody Disgusting is the official home of Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay's production company that is developing the project. So if the word comes from them that Haley is Krueger, then Haley is Krueger!

Personally, I don't love the idea of recasting Freddy Krueger but if you had to do it, Jackie Early Haley is a perfect choice. He's a great actor, he can play creepy and he even looks like he'd have a passing resemblance to Robert Englund. I just wonder how he'll look under all the makeup. So what do you think?

I'm all for remaking Nightmare - it's good, but it's terribly dated. And if you're gonna do a remake, you may as well recast the roles as well. And Haley's a good actor, so I'm cool with that.

But I'm STILL skeptical that Platinum Dunes is competent enough to pull this off. All they've proven so far is that they're good at making shiny-looking, commercialized, substance-free "horror-esque" films, with too much emphasis on Hostel-like reaction shots of the victims and not enough emphasis on crazy blood and gore. Someone should remake it, yes, but WHY THEM?

The orignal was a masterpiece, but in all the sequals, with the exception of 'New Nightmare,' Freddy lost his edge... He became cheesey. And if they have to recast him, Haley is the perfect choice... I mean, an Oscar nominated actor, who's proven time and again that he can be creepy as Hell!... This could be outstanding as long as Michael Bay keeps his lack of vision to himself, and the film has a director that knows the psychology behind a good horror movie.
