Apparently, ZOMBIELAND writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been hired to write the VENOM spin-off for Sony. They are already working on the script and took a little time to say the following:

"We had a really great relationship with Sony on [Zombieland], and so that was a nice in for us there... It gave us a leg up... We're under strict orders on Venom... We can't talk about it. It's just super secret... We read [Venom] growing up, but we were not experts... We certainly know the mythology of Venom, but went back and learned more when it became clear that we could actually get this job."

These guys have hit on a real good thing here because as much as I respect Sam Raimi, every decision that he made about how Venom should be represented on film, he got pretty much completely wrong. Right now we'll take anything, so it is the perfect situation for them, like the next guy who goes out with Rihanna. They could cast Voltron in the role and it would be better than what Raimi did.

Extra Tidbit: I wonder if Venom will be in this movie for more than ten minutes at the end??

For some reason I'm a little hyped about this movie, even though I know I shouldn't be for my own good. But it's Venom and I'm a sucker for awesome baddies. Maybe, just maybe, they can do this right this time. Maybe it won't replicate the unbelievable blunder that was Spider-Man 3. Maybe we'll have a decent movie after all.

On second thought, maybe not, and the f*cknuts at Sony are gonna' ruin this just like they did SM3. It'll be a miracle if this flick has the slightest hint of quality in it.

If I had to take a guess at the plot for a Venom movie, assuming it can't involve Spider-Man at all, you'd figure they'd have problems establishing the motivations of an alien symbiote as the main character. Most likely, they'll have some sort of military force trying to track Venom down and capture him. Shame it's not Marvel making it, cos then they could've made SHIELD that team.

Get your own opinion...THAT'S that best you can come up with??? HAHA what a tool. Yes, that's why I'm saying I didnt like SM3 because it's the "trendy" thing to do. It wouldn't be because it was maybe the biggest hyped moved ever and sucked balls...naw that wouldn't make any sense at all. apparently raimi did not have creative control over 3. the only reason he agreed to do 4 was that he would have final say in everything.

Remember: when Spidey threw the "pumpkin bomb" into the circle of metal pipes where the symbiote was, Eddie Brock jumps in, it blows up, and...there's nothing in there except dust, debris, and some bent or broken pipes. PG-13 jokes aside, where was the blood or limbs? Where was the scorch marks? Where did Venom GO?

PG-13 jokes aside, where was the blood or limbs? Where was the scorch marks? Where did Venom GO?

Me, I say they very intentionally wrote that in (read: crammed it into Sam Raimi's vision) for the purpose of having Venom come back.

And if that's the case, there's the way an appropriate PLOT could form.

It's only a question of getting a good director (if it's not Raimi) and a damn good star (someone else entirely).

Frzndonkeywheel: I loved SM3 and I do own it on DVD and Blu Ray. So what? Does that make you cool cause you didn't like it just like everyone else? Nope. Makes you look like a dork. Get your own opinion. No venom wasn't done the way I envisioned, but guess what I didn't make the movie. If I had then it would have been one or maybe two villans. The lizard and venom. The movie would have been easily 3 hours and 2 hours of it would have been action oriented. Venom is a cool character and I'm glad they are giving people like you a little more him. So quit dumping on people who have their own opinion. For the record, if a horror movie is rated PG-13 I try my best not to see it. Cause if a 13 year old is allowed to see it, it must not be that scary.

Why? How could this work as a film without Spidey? That franchise is Raimi's and he doesn't want anything to do with Venom. Could this character really stand on his own through an entire movie?

Venom has to be R to be done properly. Or a extremely hard PG-13.

I don't really see how this will be good.

They'll need a really good actor to portray Eddie Brock or whoever the hell is gonna be under the symbiote. At the very least, they could introduce Carnage in this film, and maybe have it be decent. I hope they just don't introduce a group of sub-Ghost Rider style generic symbiote rogues.

Jackie Earl Haley for Cletus Cass...

To those of you complaining about Venom going solo: He had his own comic book series once upon a time. I'd like to see this movie based on that.

Man, you guys need to stop talking about how "R-ratings" make things better. Such a rating does not necessarily improve a movie and should not have any weight in evaluating the quality of a movie (unless you're talking about a movie focused on nudity and/or swearing).

Wouldn't it be great if secretly Sam Raimi messed with Venom on purpose BECAUSE he lost creative control? I mean, he didn't even want Venom in there to begin with. Then the studio pushed for it. I think it would be awesome if he thought to himself "Okay, you guys want Venom? You think the fans really want to see him? Fine. I'll give you your Venom. But it's gonna be played by that little...

Ah the power of the trade-off.

spider-man origins: venom
This film will only work if more chracters from the Spidey universe are incorporated in the film, like Carnage and even Peter Parker.

"R" Rating and a classic "The Thing" Style horror flick. Saw a comic in the series work this way and it was absolutely fuckin awesome. Venom if done well solo could be very very good.

Venom without Spiderman sounds terrible.

Besides Raimi said he lost creative control with SM3 thats why Venom sucked so bad in it.

Not another Catwoman
I really really hope this doesn't turn into another Catwoman, where the villain has their identity completely stripped from the hero they're connected to. So long as we have some on-screen interaction -- however minimal -- between Spidey and Venom, I will cautiously await this.

I really hope Venom looks a lot better in this film than that skinny dork in Spider-Man 3, who didn't even have a chin.
