... what's up with the X-Men?
by Sturdy
When I first heard that they were seriously considering doing an X-MEN FIRST CLASS film, I passed it off as one of those ideas that float around some circles and then eventually dies when someone with a brain has to make a decision. But when news surfaced last week that it might actually happen, you can consider me officially concerned. My disdain for Fox is well documented, but their choices with the X-Men franchise really have me scratching my head.

Why not start from the VERY beginning with X-Babies?
So the last X-MEN film came out in 2006 and suffice it to say, it was a bit of a disappointment. We can bash X3 and Brett Ratner all day, but when it's all said and done, I don't think he did anything that wasn't repairable. Yeah, it was a hodgepodge of a story and he killed off some characters that we liked, but the good thing about the X-Men is that there are a lot of cool characters to pull from. And many of them haven't even been ruined used yet.

X3: No permanent damage
I have a hard time believing that they can't come up with a storyline post-X3 that's good enough. Just pick it up a few years later with the school rebuilt and a new batch of characters coming to the school. Develop a new villain and there's your movie. Add in Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart and everyone will forget about X3. Pick one of the hundred or so storylines already written in the X-Men comics and the movie will be fine. There's no reason to start over less than three years since the last film.

Do we really need a Magneto movie?
But since we're on the subject, I have concerns all around for every character involved with the X-Men. If the early reviews are any indication, WOLVERINE is going to be a colossal failure (although, I still have hope). So if Wolvie can't survive on his own, there is zero hope for any other character. Making a Magneto standalone movie just doesn't make sense to me and there are only a handful of other characters that would even merit their own film. Fox needs to find a director that understands the source material and has a vision on where to take the characters. With the X-Men, it's more about story than it is about action. It takes talent to mold all the different stories and characters in to a coherent film.

If Wolvie can't make it, no one can.
At this point, we really don't know what Fox has planned for the X-Men franchise, but from the sound of things, it doesn't sound good. I know this is asking a lot, but they need to step back from the decision process and give it to a creative mind that has a love for the X-Men stories and will do them justice. The current X-Men world is fine and shouldn't take that much to fix. So let's get going with a fourth one already.

SERIOUSLY
Just leave it be. Fox isn't changing their formula anytime soon. They only care about the bottom line. I've never liked ANY of the 'X-Men' films and I know I'm not alone. 'X3' was such an epic failure beyond belief. The 'Wolverine' film is beyond horrible. I wish it would tank, but it won't.
Problem is, nothing will change as long as Fox has the rights and money is being made. IMO, it just comes down to personal choice. You either see them, or don't. |

I would rather them continue the series instead of doing a prequal with first class.
Fox is making money from this franchise even if the movie is shit, so they wont let the rights go back to marvel. it sucks but its true. As long as the movies make money they will keep the rights.
I personally think they should start a new trilogy of movies. 4 5 6 could be called astonishing x-men and have Joss Whedon at the writing desk. Have the hellfire club be the villans in the 4th and the marauders and Mr. Sinister for 5and 6. then lead that into a Apocalypse trilogy with 7 8 and 9. Ha Ha at least that's what I would do.
I think they wont do a 4th because they dont want to spend the cash on bringing all the actors with contracts back. They have to pay them more each movie |

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE BRYAN SINGER BACK...
...in the director's chair for a direct sequel to X3. I'm looking forward to 'XO: Wolverine' and I hope FOX will get the original gang back together for an X4. I have a feeling huge paychecks, not good scripts, are what is holding the studio back from green-lighting a third sequel. But in the end, a direct sequel, not a spin-off, or prequel, is what moviegoers want to pay for. |

POOR HUGH JACKMAN
He makes such a great Wolverine. Unfortunately Fox will never let got of the movie rights. So, unless Fox gets their act together, brace yourself for more terrible X-films. |

FUCK X3 AND FUCK FOX
They left pernament damage and left me disappointed. Fox really should give the X-Men back to Marvel.
With X3, they reached the bottom of the barrel, Wolverine looks bleh, and if First Class actually happens, then it is way below bottom of the barrel.
Fox. You Suck. |

GIVE X-MEN TO MARVEL
I have no intention of seeing Wolverine. It took too long to come out and it doesn't look very good. I also hope no one goes to see it so Fox can let go of the franchise and move on.
What I really want is for Marvel Studios to get the rights to the X-men universe again and start doing these movies right. Until that day happens, I'm done with the X-universe and all their mutated film adaptations. |

FOX VS. MARVEL
With all the hype surrounding Wolverine, good and bad, and knowing that the third movie (which I only glimpsed on HBO once) turned out to be a money-making turd that seems to have worked despite itself, I actually have a little more faith in Fox pulling tricks outta their arse to make other sequels than I do regarding Marvel and their line-up for Avengers. Since X-Men is already established, with actors who are either already cast, or characters who could be played by "anyone," it feels like the hard part's over. Thor and Captain America still aren't cast, so like it or not, if Wolverine makes enough money to be deemed a success (you know it will), then Fox'll tap into another bit of X-Men lore. |

LET'S FIX THIS SHIT!
The Age of Apocolypse story would easily wipe away X3. Start with LegionQuest, where Xavier gets killed in the past, follow up with the AoA story, Bishop, BadCyclops, everybody, when the story gets wrapped up and the timeline is secure, we can just track it back to right after X2, and not let Ratner anywhere near it.
Easy fix. |

Supposedly there is the 4th X-Men movie, it can focus on Sentinels which should probably bring some awesomeness back and reboot the franchise. Especially with the "secret scene" after the credit, the movie can also focus on Muir island. Quality also depends on the director which obviously not what X3 has to offer. The problem with X3 is it killed too many characters and left us with ending that is gonna be hard to follow up in the 4th movie. Should X4 bring back Magneto? Depends. But didn't Magneto somehow a little bit move that chess piece at the end of X3? |
