Christmas in Cannes

Late spring in Cannes you usually think of sunglasses t-shirts and temperatures in the late-70s or low-80s. You certainly don't think snow. But that's exactly what Disney brought to the Cannes Film Festival earlier this morning as they debuted the first footage from A CHRISTMAS CAROL. They brought in stars Jim Carrey, Robin Wright Penn and Colin Firth, as well as director Robert Zemeckis, in a horse-drawn carriage down a street filled with fake snow.
The footage shown was in digital 3D and ran about eight minutes long. They showed two scenes: the famous "humbug!" speech and when Scrooge is confronted by former business partner Jacob Marley. While the footage is obviously not online, the trailer will premiere before UP and we've got a brand new pic from the film as well as some photos from the event to get in you that Christmas spirit.
UPDATE - As part of the virtual press conference, Disney released a quick 19-second snippet of the Jacob Marley clip referenced above. Check it out here!

As you can see, the animation right now is one step forward again. Those eyes can speak, the faces are a lot better. And if you ask me, names like Jim Carrey & Gary Oldman are golden when you can get them to capture in this digital form.
I'm not a fan of motion capture, but this seems to be OK. More than OK. For god sakes, I know there are 735 movies made already, but is there actually a good one out there? Nope. Maybe this is.
