More Expendables?

Despite the disposable implication of the title, perhaps some of Sylvester Stallone's high-profile crew of THE EXPENDABLES won't be taking the loss for the greater good (or paycheck) on their big-screen mission.

At 63 years old, could Sly have a brand new recurring character? Producer Avi Lerner would like to think so, as he tells NOLA.com from the New Orleans set: "We already have got some ideas about EXPENDABLES No. 2, No. 3. Definitely, it's a franchise movie." (Or as co-star Terry Crews puts it: "That's what I'm saying! THE RENEGOTIATABLES -- let's make that happen.")

Of course, the premise lends itself to a revolving team of other action actors, should the body count by film's end include most of the main cast -- perhaps Kurt Russell and Jean-Claude Van Damme could be coaxed to a sequel if the $80 million flick is a smash (both actors rejected offers to be in the movie).

But the writer-director-star himself might not be so quick to get back into more merc work, choreographing additional grand-scale fisticuffs and detonations. "It is very, very, very hard," Sly says. "This is the hardest film -- and I know everybody says that -- (but) this is unbelievably difficult. It's just tough. There's just so much action."

The article also discusses characters' weapons of choice and personality traits, and talks about the opening sequence of the movie. Read the whole thing RIGHT HERE.

I just hope they don't shy away from killing off some of the main dudes in this first one. It is called The EXPENDABLES after all. My dream casting is for Schwarzenegger to headline one once he's finished being governor and goes back to making movies.

Director's Cut. Which I think is envitable, which I'll glady wait for. Fine maybe 14yr olds have never heard of stallone but this movie will be a chance for them to know him and whole idea behind the franchise.

Then maybe they could do The Expendables prequel with Zac Efron, Shia Lebouf, Robert Pattinson, Frankie Muniz, Haley Joel Osment, Kyla Pratt (for boobies) etc.

As you can see, this is the potential of pg13. Yes, its stupid but how else are going to squeeze these kid's allowances to come see this movie?

After the first...
After the first EXPENDABLES comes out, every former action star and future action star will be begging SLY to be in the second, and even more in the third film.

I can only imagine them getting bigger and bigger and that's exactly what we need right now. A new trilogy of bad-ass-ism.

KURT RUSSELL!
I did not know about Kurt Russell turning down a role in Expendables. My head almost exploded thinking about how much COOLER this would have been if Russell was on board. Better yet, wouldn't it have been fucking amazing if Russell signed on, and played Snake Plisken!? Hell yeah. Oh well.

Man oh man, the list just goes on and on. Stallone could have a MONSTER franchise on his hands. I forgot one...MEL GIBSON!

Sounds great. But seriously, 2sdayschicken, what qualifies as action to you? Rambo 4 was pure, unadulterated action. Same with almost every Stallone movie. Action movies are simply that, Action movies.

the producers are debating on what to rate the movie since the budget is in around 80 mil. they're currently testing a pg13 and r rated version with audiences. they think they can make more $$$ with pg13 by attracting the High school musical crowd. when realistically, the target audience is alpha males 25 and older who will be the ones turning out to see this movie and probably be wanting their sons to go see it anyway. so logically, rating it pg13 wont be dont squat as far as bringing in a broader audience - and by reading most posts about the movie going pg13, it'll probably hurt it. i know i'll have no desire to see this if its pg13.

and thats why i was on the fence about using speed. however, studios did look it as a cash-cow and rather than spending time on a plot, they just sent out something to bring in more money, which is the same case for T4, Robocop 3, Die Hard 4 (which was basically a michael bay turd), AVP, etc.

Is there any concrete information that this movie will be rated PG-13? Because I must have missed that.

Also, Slimbo: I don't think Speed 2's PG-13 rating(frenetic disaster action and violence) had anything to do with how much it totally sucked.

what the hell do find as a good action movie then? because everything you say that doesnt equal action is what has made up every great action movie ever made.

this movie is not for you. you should be somewhere demanding another teenage mutant ninja turtles movie, not talking about the expendables

100% agree, John Locke.

the combination of PG13 and action are only good for short term money making. After years upon years, fans are still buying & talking about Predator, Alien, Terminator, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Rambo, etc. Aside from comic book action movies & spy movies (which are initially aimed towards kids in the first place) you never hear of anyone going on about PG...

As a matter of fact, Die Hard, Robocop, alien/predator, terminator, and i guess you can throw in Speed - all these franchises went PG13 and they all killed their franchises.

whats the one franchise listed above that more people are demanding? RAMBO, & its a hard R. so in the long run, R-rated action movies work better than PG13.

Sounds awesome
Cant help but be excited. and I HATED Rambo 4. And blood DOES NOT equal action. Shooting guns DOES NOT equal action. Killing, death, guts, and gore DOES NOT EQUAL ACTION! A lot of filmmakers get this confused, so I am kind of releived this is rated PG-13 in a way. Maybe we will see real action scenes.

As much as people bitch about this I don't care.. I've never seen a PG-13 rated movie that was supposed to be rated R that I liked... EVER.

How can it be balls to the wall action when you can't see the blood covered bullet holes being sprayed into people?

So much potential... wasted for trying to reach out to 14 year olds.

^ 'nuff said. That movie proved that Stallone at now 63 can still rock an action movie better than anybody short of John McClane. Probably my favorite review of it was "Holy Shit!"

i love how so many people used the expendables to shit on Inglourious Basterds only to find it has potential to be PG-13. Hehe. I never put stock in this, anyone who lets internet sites cast their characters doesn't have a vision.

Stallone, if youre out there. PLEASE DONT MAKE THIS THING R-RATED. PG13 action movies are for pussies, anyone with the right sense of mind knows that, and there is nothing pussy about this movie, so please keep it that way.
