SAW VII Buried at the end of a Variety article tracking the unlikely rise of Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton from reality TV faux filmmakers - their satirical horror script FEAST won the "Project Greenlight" contest - to official SAW franchise scribes, is this little nugget: "As for their next steps, the duo's already working on a "Saw VII" script."

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who thought SAW VI would be the end of the franchise, bad news, it's not. The SAW franchise will outlive us all. It's basically Skynet. There's no stopping it.

The sixth round of torture traps will be available for public consumption on October 23rd.

Source: Variety

Extra Tidbit: At some point, they're gonna remake or reboot the franchise and the cycle will start all over again.

Patience
If we're all very patient, like we were with Friday the 13th,we'll have Saw X: Jigsaw in Space. Then the real fun begins.

Mark this as THE first time I'm going to say this: BAD IDEA.

I was under the impression for the past three years that there would be six films...NO MORE. I'll still go see the sixth, but after that, I lose all interest.

I get so incredibly sick and tired of people ragging on this franchise. It is very intelligently written and very well directed and acted. It is structured very similarly to the way LOST is structured and it works primarily because of that. The thing I have never been able to fathom about people saying it ended at 3 is that they're saying it should have ended with everything right up in the air...

The thing I have never been able to fathom about people saying it ended at 3 is that they're saying it should have ended with everything right up in the air. To me that is just as ludicrous as if someone were to say, LOTR ended with The Two Towers or Harry Potter ended with the third or fourth one. HOW???! Four different characters' fates were up in the air as were many other mysteries and things that had been set up but not yet paid off at that point. It makes absolutely no sense. Literally what those of you who say that are actually implying is that the film makers should have ended it right in the middle of something with no resolution of any kind. Not only does it not make sense it is an absolutely idiotic way of thinking.

Sorry, but am I the only one who immediately started cracking up when I saw this article? It's just hilarious how cliche Saw has become.

Saw has such great potential...
..but settles for absolute shit. Acting, story, direction wise, all the way around actually. It could be such a tense, disturbing, and shocking series, but it's exactly like Rosie O Donnell. It's stupid, gross, and pops up just when you forgot about it.

poster?
I'm assuming that's not an early teaser poster, unless they're going for less gore in hopes of getting a PG rating for the next one. The first Saw was good. I haven't seen the last few installments.

Sure they have lost steam and the surprise factor, but these movies are harmless and good for a cheap date. I bet they make it to 10 films and just bring back every single actor for one last game.

The Saw films are my guilty pleasure. They're not great films, but they're fun as hell; and I'm ready for Saw VI. But seriously, sometimes I just wish they stop and end the damn thing.

"For me the Saw movies ended in part 3."

With four different characters' fates unknown and a handful of questions raised and things left up in the air? Have the people who say it should have ended at 3 actually seen the movies?

Seeing as they make these for about $5 million each, any one of them would have to be a major box office bomb for us to see the demise of the franchise. They're only making these films because they make so much money. The greatness of the franchise went out with the original writers. Why does the franchise need to die? They're only making these films because they make so much money. The greatness of the franchise went out with the original writers. Why does the franchise need to die? Because they've been repeating themselves and butchering the backstory since part 4, basically negating the foundation the original writers have laid out by making the premise increasingly contrived with every sequel.

Bring it on. I love the Saw franchise and don't see where all of the hate is coming from. If you don't like it, don't see it. But a fantastic horror franchise doesn't need to die just because they've gone a little downhill or have more than 6 or 7 movies. It's still better than most horror movies out there.

I never thought about that Balboa6, but yeah. Very similar in structure ...

I love Saw I and II. I hated the third one and won tickts to see the fourth one for free otherwise I never would've seen it. I never saw Saw V nor will I see any more of these poor excuses for horror movies. They should quit while they're ahead. Do they plan to go until Saw XIII? Bad, bad idea.

Since this series is structured very similarly to LOST (the tv series) it could continue for a while and still be fantastic. Of course people have a shitfit if a film becomes a franchise. How dare they continue a story on the silverscreen? Yet these same people have no problem with episodic television.
