Leo on Aquaman?

Buried in an otherwise interesting article about the state of DC Comics at the movies is a brief mention that Leonardo DiCaprio is producing a big-screen version of AQUAMAN for Warner Bros. Before you get too excited, DiCaprio is only attached to produce at this time and development is in the very early stages (they're "taking pitches" from writers). But in a time when GREEN LANTERN is finally moving ahead and other DC projects are moving ahead, it's possible we could see an AQUAMAN movie before we see another SUPERMAN movie.

It'll be hard to get an AQUAMAN movie taken seriously though with "Entourage" and "why don't you go talk to some fish?!" still fresh in everyone's brain. DiCaprio has been trying hard to get a fanboy friendly project off the ground (see: AKIRA) but hasn't had much luck.

Do you think AQUAMAN is worth adapting into a movie or would you rather Warner Bros. focus their attention on FLASH, SUPERMAN or another DC property?

i don't think a story about Aquaman would be able to stand on its own, but i'm totally down with seeing Leo try and make it worth my while.

Aquaman has had at least a passing resemblance to Aruthurian legend. If kept as a sword and sandal type picture underwater could be very good.

All Aquaman needs is good writers.
I think most people’s negative opinion of Aquaman is based on his wimpy portrayal on the old Superfriends cartoon and from parodies of him. An Aquaman movie has the potential of being the next Iron-Man or Spidey 2. The only thing keeping it from being such is the writer’s imagination.

Throw in a truly menacing Black Manta, Atlantean society intrigue and infighting, insane action...
I think most people’s negative opinion of Aquaman is based on his wimpy portrayal on the old Superfriends cartoon and from parodies of him. An Aquaman movie has the potential of being the next Iron-Man or Spidey 2. The only thing keeping it from being such is the writer’s imagination.

Throw in a truly menacing Black Manta, Atlantean society intrigue and infighting, insane action pieces containing whatever: great whites, killer whales, mutant sea creatures, Atlantean undersea battles, giant tidal waves, submarines, warships and even land based action. Aquaman can function on land as well. Whatever the script allows.

Add a little corporate pollution by Lexcorp to tie Aquaman to the rest of the DC universe a la Iron-Man. Most importantly, make Aquaman and those around him interesting. He doesn’t have to be brooding (done to death). Make him tough, give him a hard edge. Most forget that he has superhuman strength . This would make for a great brawl with some baddies.

Aquaman is such an under-appreciated character. Let’s hope some good writers change some people’s minds.

Marvel's Namor has always been a more interesting character,with wanting to destroy the human race and what not...An Aquaman movie would just be silly in comparision.

In this day and age of 'dark' superheroes, I think the costume designers will have a challenge with the outfit to make it look less ...um, ......er.. Shall we say, "flamboyant" becuase the whole leather outfit thingy (which is trend) wouldn't work with Aquaman and it would piss off the loyal fans.

Anyway like Smiert Spionam said, it could test visual-fx artists to come up with so...

uh, hello?
apparently mike didn't take the time to read the whole article since the flash is moving right along and will probably be the next movie that we see from dc after the green lantern.

as far as aquaman's get up, have him loose his hand and have the spear/ hook in it's place and it's all good from there on out. also, go the eco terrorist route w/ him.

Give me a break Superman has had more than enough chances Aquaman may be a stupid comic but on screen it could be one of the newest ideas and something fresh from all the typical superhero movies. I'm no Aquaman fan at all but I still realize a movie COULD be incredibly...

Aguaman sucks.... he has sucked for at least 15 years. When he lost his hand for that half a second and became bad ass for a few months. That was zas cool as he ever got. I dont see how that character can be interesting enough for a whole movie, or how it couldnt be cheesy, but I confess to not knowing a lot about the character.

People do not give enough credit to Aquaman. He can be very interesting. The Silver Age just kind of made him the guy who talks to fish.

... an Aquaman film could be awesome. Theoretically, the film would be more about the lost city of Atlantis and its people. With today's FX, that could be visually stunning....

Well, considering that WB needs to get a Supes movie into production before 2011 or they lose the rights to the Siegel estate, my guess is that they're frantically trying to come up with something before they lose the rights to a billion dollar iconic character.

a couple of years ago they attempted to relaunch the Aquaman comic as a sort of Conan underwater type thing. Swords, sorcery, all kinds of secret human type races living underwater. It sounds kind of cool actually, but when it come to making a movie like this or something more traditional i just don't think you can have a movie set completely underwater, and if you take Auqaman on land then w...

This is a bad idea and the whole idea of Aquaman to be adapted to movie is really hard to do. Unlike Green Lantern, Green Lantern can pretty much do everything with his green ring, visualizing his thoughts into action scenes. But Aquaman the movie?? It could turn out to be corny.
