One of the best and most underrated horror films I saw last year was THE STRANGERS, the chilling tale of a couple being stalked in their remote home by a trio of masked psychopaths. The quiet, understated film struck all the right notes, and left all the excruciating details to the imagination (I can't believe we didn't see their faces!). Apparently THE STRANGERS: PART 2 is set to begin filming in September with music video director Laurent Briet set to direct, replacing the original film's director Bryan Bertino. It' not yet known whether or not Liv Tyler will resume her role in the sequel, but since rumours abound that the film will take place in trailer park, we doubt it. Unless her character is so damaged from the happenings of the first film that she's unable to hold a job or function as a productive member of society. Not that there's anything wrong with living in a trailer park.

The first one is the only movie I ever yelled out in the theater "this fucking sucked". Am I surprised? No, they keep making saw movies and assholes keep watching those.

I don't understand how anyone can say The Strangers was underrated. It got a ton of amazing press - which was odd being as it was such a predictable lame-fest of a film. I really don't see how anyone could have more of a "meh" feeling towards it.

Well I rather liked The Strangers...until the ending. I don't know if I liked that ending. I kind of just wanted both of them to get slaughtered and the bad guys win. Anyway, most underrated movie of last year in my opinion.....The Wackness.

let it all die.
Terrible "horror" movie that followed a slew of bad horror flick cliches, relied on boredom with no sound (which no sound is usually a good call) and an ending that entirely negates the unneeded introductory exposition in the beginning. So, lame. Don't need another lazy horror movie. We got enough of those already.

Jesus not another one. You guys at JoBlo actually liked that piece of crap? Wow. I've lost a ton of respect for you guys. The Strangers is one of the most awful films of any genre I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. It's as though they said "Lets rip off Funny Games, but without any of Haneke's creativity!".

Just awful. The Strangers makes Saw 5 look like Citizen Kane.

That's my vote for the most underated film of last year. It's such a disturbing french movie. I can't believe I was able to sit through the whole movie, after watching it I keep thinking about it and feel violated.

Splinter was damn good for the horror genre. I have to say, as stated below, more people need to see In Bruges, too.

Most underrated movie of last year would have to be either "A Christmas Tale," a little french movie that was probably my favorite Christmas movie ever, or "My Winnipeg," which was bizarre and genius. And about Canada!

I didn't think The Strangers was all that underrated; it seemed like it got enough exposure... maybe not as much as most mainstream horror movies, but still enough to attract an audience.

If they could come up with a way in which Liv Tyler was seeking revenge and actively searching them out and somehow set them up thinking they are terrorizing a lonely couple where in fact she will terrorize them and they will be the ones being f'ed with.

In Bruges by far, which is not only one of the best movies of 08 but one of the best of the last 10 years. I still can't believe how many people say what the fuck is Bruges when I ask them if they've seen it.

I also really enjoyed Snow Angels.

Live for Something, Die for Nothing
Underrated movie would be "Rambo", it was the second best movie in that franchise.
As for the Strangers 2, bringing in a music video director and being in a trailer park...sounds like a direct to dvd movie.

Speed Racer was so underrated. Everytime i watch this flick i get goosebumps without fail. Especially the final race.. ooh man, good shit right there.

Great movie
Strangers was great, but you can be sure the sequel will suck.
Most underrated movie of 2008 has to be 'The Hurt Locker'. Yes, it came out limited last year. Awesome film!

Rambo & Death Race. Went above and beyond of what was expected of them.

i loved the strangers, and havent talked to too many people that didnt like it. i went to the theaters to see it and was surprised, but didnt think it would be as good a 2nd time. but then got it used form blockbuster for $7 and watched it again a few weeks ago and found it just as tense & eerie the 2nd time ...
