Now that Chris Hemsworth has been cast in THOR, the only real missing piece of Marvel’s AVENGERS puzzle is red, white and blue all over. CAPTAIN AMERICA is slated for a summer 2011 release, but almost nothing about the project is for certain at this point.

It’s probably for that reason that “Torchwood” star John Barrowman saw Comic Con as good a time as any to toss his hat into the ring. Addressing the crowd at the “Torchwood” panel Barrowman said, "You know what I want to play? Captain America.” But over the cheers of his fans he added, “So it won’t happen.” That’s the spirit!

I just finished watching Barrowman perform adequately in the “Torchwood: Children of Earth” miniseries on the BBC, and though I suppose he’s a decent enough actor and could look the part with a blonde dye job, I don’t see him in the role, and I don’t think “Torchwood” has enough petition-signing fans to get him the part. I mean, if “Firefly” nuts couldn’t get Nathan Fillion GREEN LANTERN…

However, I do agree with the idea that the Cap’n should NOT be a premium A-list face a-la-Pitt or DiCaprio as has been suggested previously. Hemsworth as Thor was a good call (though Skarsgard was clearly better) while conversely, I think Ryan Reynolds is the wrong pick for Green Lantern.

Extra Tidbit: If not Barrowman, then who? Hell, I could almost see LANTERN reject Bradley Cooper in the stars and stripes.

I've been saying this for a while now...
Basically, I want Paul Walker for Cap Am. If he wants to be taken seriously, why not a period piece...and comic book movie to add in the extra fun. He's an excellent actor (Watch Running Scared and tell me otherwise) and he's young enough to handle a franchise. On that note...although Fast n Furious was good...let it die...PLEASE?!

After watching The Spirit back in Feb. I am pulling for Gabriel Macht. He's got what it takes, and he's from the USA. I've been debating this for awhile now, and was get set for Brad Pitt, but after seeing The Spirit, I'm for Gabriel.

I'm the last guy you'd find waving around a flag chanting "AMERICUH", but I too think Captain America should be played by an American. I don't know who, though. There are so few actually good American actors that fit the part..

I want Skarsgard as Cap. I know, I know, that tiny bit of jingoistic asshole in me demands that Steve Rogers be played by an American, but I was sold on Skarsgard as Captain America after just the first two episodes of Generation Kill.

'Children of Earth' was great. It was quite daring too. But Barrowman may have the handsome look (and man he has a great sense of humor), he doesn't strike me as CA. Though truth be told, I find CA to be quite boring, so perhaps it's best he decided not to do it.

I've said it before, but I really think Josh Duhamel would be perfect. Of course when I first brought this up he was a little younger, but he's pretty dang youthful looking for being in his mid thirties. He's also a pretty awesome actor who's had some decent esposure through "Las Vegas" and "Transformers" and is poised for a breakout role.

Sam Worthington for an more mature Cap, or Jensen Ackles for a younger Cap. Both have the square jaw and the acting chops to make it a decent role.

I'm not gunning for Skarsgard for this role - but he's great in True Blood, and Generation Kill (definitely NOT a prettyboy in the latter). The reason why you aren't familiar with his work is that most of his resume is in foreign work until recently.

I agree that 23 is probably too young, unless they find somebody superlative with enough gravitas to pull it off.

I don't know anything about Barrowman, so I won't judge him from the pretty-boy photo on this page. He could work as well as anyone, I reckon. I'm a big fan of the character, so I hope this film goes well, but I think the story and look of the film will be the real tough part, at least as much as the casting. Cap's a tough hero to translate into real-life without making him campy. I agree th...
