You all remember the great GODZILLA mistake of 1998? Everyone was excited to see the legendary creature on the big screen with the use of modern technologies. But what happened? I don't have to tell you, you already know.

Well apparently Legendary Pictures wants to make it right. Currently things are just in the discussion stage with no other details. There's a lot of potential with a project like this, and obviously we've made more advances in film since 1998. When I first saw GODZILLA I seriously thought it was supposed to be a comedy. The film took itself too seriously in my opinion.

Director of the 1998 reboot Roland Emmerich, says he has no interest in making anymore. That's good, because Emmerich is big on the hit and miss. He's got a few good ones here and there like INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE PATRIOT, and STARGATE, but the rest of the films he's done aren't as solid. I'm not sure who I would get to direct, who I would cast, or what I would do with the story, but as long as it's not like the one in 98, it's making progress.

The Patriot is one of the worst movies ever made
The Patriot is manipulative, simple-minded, propagandic, and preachy. I suppose some people can turn their brains off and enjoy it as an action movie, but those who can watch that movie, pay attention, and still like it, well they scare me.

'Bout Time !!
Thank goodness! We wait all those years just to have the Emmerich brothers screw it allll the way up! I mean, G running from EVERYTHING? Laying eggs? Maybe now someone will bring it back to it's roots, ala Gojira ( sans Raymond Burr ). Now THAT was Godzilla!!

Awesome!
Awesome news! I'm suprised it took them this long, i mean with all the remakes and reboots lately.

I remember going crazy in 1998 when i saw the teaser trailer and early footage. But what a let down it turned out to be. Who in hell decided to put Matthew Broderick in the lead?? Damn...

The monster's head looked silly, the female lead was also terrible and the film had too much comedy. They should look at Cloverfield as an example.

as long as that hack Roland Emmerich isn't behind this, but I only really liked the original Gojira movie.

I thought the '98 GODZILLA was pretty damn good! Flawed here or there (mostly the female co-star), a little goofy (but that's to pretend that none of the other Godzilla films ever get "goofy," to say the least), but the special effects dazzled me, Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno were great, and it left itself wide open for sequels.

So, sequel? Bring it on!

This is good news. Legendary definitely has a sense of quality about them. And by the way, I actually enjoyed the 1998 Godzilla a lot. I was a kid, so give me that benefit at least. Maybe if I had watched the same thing this year for the first time, it wouldn't have been so cool. But I loved the 98 Godzilla. Tons of fun.

Still, hope they make a new one. Godzilla is awesome.

i'd be up for this. i love me some godzilla. if cloverfield was actually a godzilla movie, it probably wouldn't have sucked as much. but if they did another godzilla movie, i can't see hollywood going with the guy in suit concept. its classic, but there would be too much money involved to go with the rubber suit way. i think i could handle cgi. you all wouldn't be so adamant against a cgi godzi...

Sorry, did you just call "The Patriot" "solid"? Don't get me wrong, acting was top-notch, but it butchered history and was basically Braveheart: The American Revolution.

I'd be completely OK with a new Godzilla movie as long as it was left to those who've made it right in the past. The rubber suit is part of the charm!

Exactly my thoughts. With the technology today, no, not 3D MAX or Maya , but an actual actor in prosthetic appliances...this could be so bad-ass if done right and Legendary are pretty solid so far.

I liked the Emmerich Zilla too...
Well, we've had Cloverfield, and I don't think another Hollywood Godzilla would have the novelty value of the 1998 movie. And if it is just New York Getting Trashed movie... really, that poor town has been wiped out on screen quite enough in the past decade.

It it was a "Versus" movie and we saw the Hollywood version of King Ghidorah or Rodan or Mothra or MechaGodzilla. Or King...

Maybe...
I'll sit on the fence with this one for now. When there's a script, director & potential actors...THEN I'll listen for the buzz. Better be some fire spittin' and some nose scratchin' going on! (Old time godzilla fans knowuddamsayin')

Just my opinion, but if they do the Godzilla efx like Where the Wild Things Are (i.e. sophisticated animatronics mixed with CGI facial movements) it could work really, really well. I just don't buy Godzilla as being completely CG... part of his charm is the guy-in-a-suit thing.

I honestly don't understand all the hate towards Godzilla 1998. At least the monster looked realistic and was an actual threat compared to the Japanese versions when he's battling giant butterflies and three headed dragons.
