Downey as Lestat?

Ever since his welcome return from relative obscurity, it seems like Robert Downey Jr. has been collecting franchises. IRON MAN, SHERLOCK HOLMES, and now... the vampire Lestat?

According to Bloody Disgusting, Downey is in discussions with Universal to slip on the fake fangs once worn by Tom Cruise and Stuart Townsend, for a new film featuring Anne Rice's bold bloodsucker Lestat de Lioncourt.

Considering vampires are everywhere these days, it's not surprising a studio would want to return to the popular series of books. It's unknown what direction the film would take -- the Lestat character has appeared in a number of the author's Vampire Chronicles novels, two of which were previously adapted to screen (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and QUEEN OF THE DAMNED).

Extra Tidbit: Personally, I'd rather see Downey do another Harry Lockhart mystery.

I'm actually getting pretty sick of all the Vampire movies/tv shows. But, I figure they'll be making "The Vampire Lestat" which is about Lestat's origins and comes between "Interview" and "Queen" in the book series.

I'd rather see Tom come back as Lestat, he did a really good job! BUT, after seeing how they messed up Queen of the Damned so badly I don't know if I want to see another book adaption.
Now if it's Tale of the Body Theif and Downey plays him in human form and they get Cruise back......that'd be pretty freakin cool, if done right.

I don't mind...
I would rather see Tom Cruise come back but Downey is no slouch. He would be the next best thing. If they do the 2nd book, Brad Pitt is in there for about 7min at the end so that would be a nice touch.

Captain fucking Magic!
Love Downey but I have to agree and say I'd rather have another Lockhart movie. His chemistry with Val Kilmer was absolutely sick and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang still manages to make me laugh even after several viewings.

Rather see both Tom and Brad returning to their roles. Perhaps they can explain their a bit older appearance somehow..

Preferably Tom Cruise for this role
Lestat chronicles is the best vamp story after Dracula, wouldnt mind if Tom returns.....every other vamp story these days just dont does it for me they look cheesy.....

An Anita Blake movie would be fantastic! I loved the first ten books, but then they got too bogged down in "who's fucking who?", so I quit. But those first few are downright visceral.

I'm putting my foot down on this one (not that any casting director cares what i think) but no. Just freaking no. Im sorry i think that Downey is a great actor when he's not..what are the right words..To in your face. When i look at the footage from Sherlock i see downey channeling tony stark being played by RDJ and thats a turnin me off(buy thats also another topic). But im sorry mates i serio...

I really just don't think he has it in him To be that devilishly seductive,conflicted, and honestly he's simply not handsome enough for the role. dont get me wrong he's a decent looking guy, but not one i'd write home about. while i certainly think he's a great actor i don't think he's got the chops for this role. I really hope this isnt true, i dont think i could go through another one of anne rices works being trashed (yeah i know he probably wouldnt sign on unless the script was amazing but still if he's going to play the lead and he just doesn't sit right with the audience then your done)

p.s. Interview witht eh vampire was a really good go at adapating the book...queen of the damned...not so much, Aaliyah was the only person in that film who seemed like they were trying to give a decent performance.

I must say, there are far worse actors to play the part. Though it's still debatable if this is indeed needed. I'd probably rather he find a vampire black comedy to be in. But looking at the dang Kirk Lazarus pic can't get me off thinking he needs to don fangs in something.

Robert Downey Jr. is the man...
...but I really hate to see him go for these sort of traditional leading man roles. The Lestat books coud make some awesome movies, but it really seems more like a Jude Law, Eric Bana, Sam Worthington kind of role.

Yes.
What a great idea. I can only pray that it's "TALE OF THE BODY THIEF", RD Jr. would kill it. Keeping my fingers crossed for good director, and the right production for the world of Anne Rice. Hell, Neil Jordan can do it again.
