Giamatti confirms Perlman as Elvis

When Paul Giamatti was rumored to play the King's manager Col. Parker in a sequel to the absolute little gem BUBBA HO-TEP, it felt as just too good to ever have even the smallest chance of being true. Especially since Bruce Campbell kept bumming us out by saying he himself wasn't doing it. But then Giamatti dropped THE bomb: Elvis is alive and well, and looking like...Ron Perlman. The words "F*ck" and "Yeah" came to mind.

Talking to Fangoria Radio this week, Hellboy's alter ego not only confirmed that the film is still a go with himself and big Paul involved, but filming should start in just a few weeks if all goes right.

I’ll be done shooting SONS OF ANARCHY in September, and we’re hoping to get into production on BUBBA in my hiatus between seasons two and three," the tall guy said. "I just spoke to Paul Giamatti  and Don Coscarelli this morning, and we’re just moving the ball down the field, trying to get her done.

Perlman also announced the casting of Angus Scrimm, known to Coscarelli fan as The Tall Man from the PHANTASM movies. He'll be playing a Boris Karloff-esque actor that Elvis meets on the set of a Vampire film in the 70s.

Why the f*ck can't studios back original wacky stuff like this instead of the thousands of sh*tty remakes we keep getting?

as much as i love Ron Pearlman...I don't see him as being fit for this role. How is he Elvis like at ALL? The entire idea of a sequel to this film kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth honestly. It seems like a movie that's better left untampered with. I'll give it a chance but...I don't feel good about this.

In response to your question.....
Why the f*ck can't studios back original wacky stuff like this instead of the thousands of sh*tty remakes we keep getting? It is because the moviegoing public in general does not want to see films like this. I love them, and may people on sites like this do also, but the market for them is very small. People are SHEEP!

The original movie's brilliant, but I don't doubt Ron Perlman's ability to do a top job as Elvis. I'd definitely want to see this film. That said, is calling it Bubba Ho-Tep 2 being deliberately dumb or actually just dumb, given the whole Ho-Tep element of the name was mummy related?

Eh
The only thing that worries me is that they'll stray away from the human aspect. What made Bubba Ho-Tep great was Elvis' struggle with being old, washed up and dying. All of his inner monologues were fantastic. And don't forget about Brian Tyler's score. ... Just a great, great, great film.

Couldn't agree more!
Whilst obviously bummed out about Campbell not being in the movie, Perlman is a great choice; and the suggestion of recasting in every movie is inspired. I also agree with Mr Lang in that its nice to see some crazy ideas on the fringe of Hollywood rather than the drudge of remaes assaulting my eyes like a rarely thumbed copy of Hairy Grannies on Heat.

Who's writing it?
I'm all for Ron taking up the Kings persona, especially in the 70's, now I'm really only worried about the story. Joe R. Landsdale had a brilliantly fun idea with the original short story of which the first movie is based on. It'd be great if they tapped him for the sequel. I recommend picking up Sanctified & Chicken-Fried. It has some of the best horror, western, early america, hillbilly short...

Old news. Bruce announced this cast back when he was doing the junkette tour for his movie My Name Is Bruce. Glad to see that they're finally getting going on production. It's only been a year or so since this was put together.

BC Wins!
This is exciting and cool because I like Paul and Ron, but Bruce is the man and easily wins. I met him in real life and it was awesome! Anyways, I like PeaJay18's idea about recasting it everytime.

Recast every movie!
How about getting a different actor in to play The King in various guises in different time periods? We had Old Elvis Vs The Mummy, now it's Vegas Elvis Vs Vampires, who could play 50s Elvis Vs Werewolves?

Perlman should do Family Guy
This is good news. Perlman will bring more awesomeness to this. They should keep it going with cult actors.

Man that's a hard one but I think I would have to go with Bruce...he is the man! But I am still jazzed that they are doing a second one even sans Mr. Campbell. Perlman is awesome and I am sure he will knock it out of the park. But it would have been a fan boys wet dream to have BC back in action as Elvis.
