Halo ODST trailer

UPDATE - Now updated with the extended trailer!
Normally, I wouldn’t be posting up a video game trailer here, as we are first and foremost a movie site. However, once you watch this new spot for "Halo ODST: from IGN, you’ll see why it’s worth a look.
The thing is shot entirely in live action, and in only a minute and thirty seconds, will have you crying out for a HALO movie. The project has fallen in and out of existence for a long while now, first dropped by Peter Jackson then (sort of) picked up by Steven Spielberg, but when you view something like this, it goes without saying that this IS a movie that should at least be attempted, for better or for worse.

Extra Tidbit: I think the missing piece to a HALO movie is that Master Chief needs to have a face to be in any way relatable.

As a full film, Halo would fail. It's one of the most generic mashes of a bunch of other films' ideas that I've ever seen. It's fun to play through, but if you're playing for the story you A) haven't ever seen a sci fi movie before or B) are doing it wrong.
Also, I find it hard to support Bungie in their endeavors lately. Tired of seeing them milk the shit out of this franchise and no way in hell will I be spending 60 dollars on a 3 hour expansion pack that adds nothing new or fresh to a series that pretty much ran it's course after the first game.

Citizen Kane (and Halo isn't the Citizen Kane of games) was a mish mash of every cinema trick. That's why it was so successful and groundbreaking. Orson Welles wasn't doing anything new, he didn't reinvent the wheel. What he DID do was put all the elements that previously existed, and combined them in a unique way for the first time.
Halo did a lot of that too. It didn't reinvent the whell, it just took what previously existed and expanded upon it. Without Halo, video games wouldn't be where they are today. And the promo, while a promo, reflects how far video games have come not only on a console, but in the media as well.
Halo is the game and franchise of the decade. In the hands of a capable filmmaker, it can be an incredibly brilliant film too.
Besides, it's not like they'll follow the games plot step for step any way... like this promo proves, you can do a lot with the Halo universe and create something compelling.

But if that doesn't work, I fully support Red4's idea of telling the story through multiple perspectives. And just for the hell of it, I'm gonna toss out Carl Weathers as a candidate to play Sgt. Johnson. Though he may be a little old and by the time they actually get around to making this flick he'll probably be in assisted living.

We shouldn't have to settle just for Blampkoff's short film.
PS - What language were they speaking though?
