     Depp with Dick Cook

Rumblings at the highest instances of the Mouse House this Friday might end up costing it one of it's current biggest cash cows, at least if someone over there doesn't call Johnny Depp right away.

Disney announced during the day that long-time Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook was stepping down effective immediately after 38 years with the organization, a move reportedly prompted by a rough financial year. Although Cook released a statement through the studio where he seems to imply he left on his own, Disney CEO Bob Iger had publicly expressed his disappointments in Cook and the studios' recent performances back in May during a conference call with media representatives. Thus many interpret the latest reversal as a lay off.

Whatever the reason for his departure, fact remains that Cook was highly popular and appreciated among the industry, something actor Johnny Depp bitterly reminded the organization when talking to the folks of the Los Angeles Times, upon learning the news from Cook himself.

"He's instantly trustworthy. And you generally don't meet people at the studios you trust. He's a rare beast," Depp said, remembering that all but Cook were disapproving of his plan to portray Jack Sparrow in a very un-Disney manner.

Cook was also the one who got Depp on board a fourth Pirates movie, though the actor apparently only has a "potential deal" in place pending script approval, and has yet signed no dotted line. But now...

"There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment," Depp expressed. "It was all born in that office." As far as I can tell Depp isn't know as a "prick" among his peers, but the guy doesn't exactly need Pirates as much as the other way around so what's to stop him from walking out? Have we thus seen the last of Jack Sparrow?

Extra Tidbit: And where does that leave Lone Ranger? In probably no better shape...

How embarrassing can this get for Disney. They made big news with the announcement of a 4th film and now it is in jeopardy because they made a dumb move. I don't think Depp will upset his fans and not do it but expect this to be the last Pirates film.

GOOD.
This franchise was going to the dogs anyways. Maybe Depp's departure is the bitch-slap Hollywood so desperately needs.

Bob Iger Is A Douche Bag
Is there any surprise that Disney would run off such a class act as Cook? Let's not forget that Bob Iger was Mike Eisner's bitch and this is the nutsack that the Disney board approved to take Eisner's place after he himself nearly burned the Mouse House to the ground with piss poor, greedy descisons like a direct-to-video sequel to every classic Walt Disney film.
If Johnny walks you can...

This sucks, I don't care about the pirates movies, I enjoyed the first one, but that's it. I'm worried that this will effect the Marvel/Disney relationship, because they just got rid of one of the few suits with a brain. Does this ruin any chance of Depp playing Dr. Strange? maybe, but I hope not.

not good..
dick cook makes good call in supporting depp's character = helps make an amazing/ fun character and loads of cash for disney > they lay him off?? some one must be into the rum over there. not only that but with no one to keep the other guys from making stupid decisions.. i sense a line up of bad remakes on the horizon...

Huge Potential Problem
No Depp = No Jack Sparrow = Me no likey.
What would make this even worse is if they went along with the movie and replaced Depp with either Ryan Reynolds or Don Cheadle....*sigh

Oh no, how terrible...now they may not make it...I'm so unbelievably devastated...for after walking out of the cinematic masterpiece that was Pirates 3, all I could think about was how badly they needed a fourth one. Seriously, this movie needs to be never made, and Depp needs to start choosing some projects with more meat in them.

I hope the title turns out to be true
I hate the pirate movies and not excited about the lone ranger. Now Depp can finally move onto some better projects.

Well, many of the members here are easily jilted and have poor film taste to begin with as happens when you consider yourself a "critic". For my part I'll say that I welcome another Pirates film but not so much without Sparrow.

good!
there's no need to cook up another pirates movie. the trilogy was fine, let's leave it at that and move on.

Who would want a Pirates movie without Depp? Not most people... Sure i like the character, he's tha only reason I will watch a Pirates film, along with Geoffery Rush. The first movie was pretty great, unexpectedly... the second was a little bit of a guilty pleasure, just overlong, but i couldn't even stand watching all of the third film.

Anywayz, no Depp, no Pirates, but this doe...

Interesting
I can't say I've grown any more fond of Jack Sparrow over the last two flicks. I don't mind if there's never AGAIN another Pirates movie. I know Depp likes playing him, but it might be better if it all stayed a pipe dream and Depp went on to better things.
