WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE

Sunny with a chance of #1

Matt Damon, Megan Fox and Jennifer Aniston sucked a big one this past weekend, as all 3 of their new films finished waaaaaay behind the latest 3D kid's movie entitled CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, which managed to score over $30M worth of entries over the first 3 days of its release. I'm already putting down my option on the film's sequel being entitled CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF NACHOS...baby!

Damon's THE INFORMANT actually managed a decent showing in 2nd place and about $11M, which is also a good amount when you consider that the film apparently only cost about $20M to produce. It was, however, Damon's lowest opening gross since 2006's THE SHEPHERD (which surprisingly went on to make about $60M).

The Megan Fox parade might be ending very soon as well (and maybe even the Diablo Cody one) as her first major starring role in JENNIFER'S BODY, which seems like it's been talked about for years now, was a major disappointment, opening in 5th place with only about $7M. I'm assuming Fox's constant bitching about the industry and how she's this and that, didn't do her any favors. Somewhere Michael Bay is blowing something up and smiling though. In the film's defense, it apparently only cost about $16M to produce, so it certainly won't be a money-loser...but no major hit either.

The other parade I hope will soon be coming to an end is America's love affair with one Jennifer "boring" Aniston. If you can give me 3 reasons why this woman is "interesting" in any way, shape or form, I'll send you a dollar (and "having been married to Brad Pitt doesn't count", since that didn't work out). Aniston's latest film entitled LOVE HAPPENS (are they just drawing chick flick titles out of hats now??) opened weakly in 4th place with only about $9M in grosses. Again, in its defense, the film only cost about $18M to put together, so it likely won't be losing much money either. Aniston's ability to "open a film", on the other hand, has been compromised. It was her lowest opening gross since 2005's RUMOR HAS IT.

The 4 movies that were booted from the top 10 in order to make place for the new arrivals included GAMER ($19M), DISTRICT 9 ($112M), JULIE & JULIA ($88M) and WHITEOUT ($8M). At the same time, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS has become Quentin Tarantino's highest-grossing film of all-time, surpassing PULP FICTION, which had made $108M back in 1994 (BASTERDS is at $110M).

Next week sees the release of 4 new movies including three more genre films (maybe too many over the past few weeks?). The first is SURROGATES, a sci-fi flick starring Bruce Willis and a lot of cool-looking effects. The second is PANDORUM, yet another sci-flick flick (this one in space though) starring Dennis Quaid and the plotline to about 12 other films of the sort. Finally, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is a "little horror movie that could" starring no "big names", but plenty of positive buzz from film festivals (they're comparing it to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT). Oh, and FAME is also opening. Sigh. Which movie do you think will be #1 next weekend? VOTE HERE.

The Informant was great and deserves so much more love than it's getting. Glad to see Jennifer's Body and Love Happens bomb. Both Fox and Aniston are pretty worthless.

Jennifer's Body
Jennifer's Body was actually a pretty damn good horror film, especially with what's been getting produced lately. I was VERY weary going in but give it a shot, just trust me. For a cool review of it check out my site Sick Picks @ [link]

I am still a fan of Jennifer Aniston's... i dont think you can blame her for her private lifes over exposure. Cant wait to check out Surrogates next week, i just think it looks pretty bad ass

Actually, I'm not talking about her over-exposure or private life so much.

I mean Jennifer Aniston...the actress! Sooooo boring. Always the same character. Always looks the same. And yeah...she's boring in real life too. I don't get it. PS: Great ass though!

Jennifer's Body would have easily taken the #1 spot had they made it PG-13. You don't make a horror-comedy set in high school and expect it to make any money. Just saw "The Informant!" today though and I really hope it gets a decent word-of-mouth boost because I really thought it was great.

Don't rag on Aniston
Yeah, her choices for film roles haven't been spectacular (especially as of late), but the woman's a goddess. Honestly, talk about Hollywood's hottest girl next door. She's been my #1 for years now.

If you need proof, watch Bruce Almighty and jump to the "pleasurable" sequence.

Cloudy is a fantastic film. It's really is, although the trailers don't make it out to be a good movie. It's very funny, clever, ingenious, and, above all, entertaining for both the kids and /adults. I really liked the movie a lot. 8/10

I did expect a bigger take for Fox due to the modern audience utter lack of taste of any kind, (See Meet the Spartans opening) but I guess she has been over hyped and everyone is just sick of hearing about her.

out of those 4
i want to see INFORMANT!, I think I may be over Megan Fox, HAPPENS looks shitty, and CLOUDY looks like another run-of-the-mill Dreamworks kid flick.

I wish more people embraced "9". It isn't perfect, but it's one of the more interesting things out right now and is visually hypnotizing.

Cloudy was one of the best in a string of lack-luster, kid friendly fare. The visuals were alluring, the story engaging, the moral heart warming and damn it was funny. Not to mention the vocal stylings of the one and only MR.T!!!! Great movie... Not as great as UP but close.

Unexpected!
I'am slightly surprised. I'm happy Meatballs did great- and now I gotta check it out. But I expected Fox's overrated hotness to lure more guys to check it out - Guess they were pretty smart on this one - also that fact it went up against a kids movie - that probably helped a lot..

I'm not surprised to be honest.

I was hoping that Jennifer's Body would run home with the win.

Three reasons Jennifer is interesting...
ONE In 1997, Jennifer was nominated for a Raspberry award as worst new star.
TWO She would describe herself as curious, caring and fun.
THREE She would love to meet Barbara Streisand.
Take THAT JoBlo. Three scandalous and controversial facts.

I didnt expect CLOUDY to gross that much, but Im glad for everyone behind that film. I'll see it some day with my nieces.

Im also surprised by THE INFORMANT!. Not the kind of film to attract masses, it didnt, but I thought it would open weaker. Damon probably helped, and Im glad it performed decently.
