John C. Reilly has signed on to star alongside Ed Helms in the upcoming comedy CEDAR RAPIDS. In the film, Helms stars as a small-town businessman who has to travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to give a big business speech and is blown away by life in the "big city." Reilly will play a fellow businessman at the conference who looks at his time away from home to let loose. The film reunites Reilly with director Miguel Arteta who he worked with previously on the Jennifer Aniston/Jake Gyllenhaal dramedy THE GOOD GIRL.

RAPIDS marks Helms' first starring role since his breakout role in this summer's THE HANGOVER. He's got a number of other projects in the works including a comedy about Civil War reenactments and the spy comedy CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE. Reilly can be seen next in the teen thriller THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT. Filming begins later this year on CEDAR RAPIDS for Fox Searchlight.

Extra Tidbit: Arteta recently directed the Michael Cera comedy YOUTH IN REVOLT.

This is great.
I used to live in Cedar Rapids. It's a really nice city. If you can get past the occasional factory fart-smell now & then, you'd enjoy your time there. The city has been on hard times since the tragic floods during the summer of last year. I hope they film the movie in the city instead of say substituting Toronto for CR.

I thought this was going to be an announcement for a sequel to THE RIVER WILD.

They just don't make thrillers like that anymore, do they?

What the hell is going on here?!?! This is the second movie I've read about on here this week taking place in Iowa. I don't think we have had 2 movies take place here in the last 5 years, and now news on 2 in the same week? Either way, I like Reilly and Helms, and I live about 45 minutes from Cedar Rapids (and it's definitely not a "big city") so it should be funny.

I'm happy he's working with Arteta because I loved The Good Girl and Revolt sounds really promising, but I really miss the days when Reilly did other films besides comedies. I know I plug this guy all the time, but he needs another role in PT Anderson movie...whenever the hell that may be.
