Are you ready for some Raimi horror films you can watch with your children?

Well, they're coming with a new banner under Ghost House production called Spooky Pictures. Films under Spooky will host more family friendly horror movies and thrillers. This will serve as some sort of competition for Guillermo del Toro and his Disney team up with Double Dare You.

This ought to get real interesting seeing what sorts of films both teams bring to the table. First up for Spooky Pictures is a remake of the Danish film THE SUBSTITUTE. The film will be directed by Scott Derrickson who is known for THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. He's also taking on a film version of PARADISE LOST.

For ideas on what the SUBSTITUTE is like, think THE FACULTY except with sixth graders. The kids are horrified to find out that their teacher is....*shocker* an alien! Not only an alien, an evil mind reading alien. Unfortunately the parents aren't listening to their kids allegations. Big surprise.

Raimi and Rob Tapert who produced on such films as ARMY OF DARKNESS and DARKMAN will both produce on the SUBSTITUTE remake. Will it be good? Will it have Famke Janssen? One can only hope.

Extra Tidbit: IMDB lists SPIDERMAN 5 as in development, I wonder where that ones going. On the DC side of things, I'd like my next BATMAN with Crazy Quilt. Just kidding.

Gonna respectfully disagree...

horror + family friendly = They just got my money, cuz there's so few good halloween flicks that I can take pre-teens and tweens to.

Hey, I'm down with this news but, isn't the term, "family friendly horror" an oxymoron?

Yeah, the sound of Del Toro and Raimi competing is basically a win-win for us. Definitely liking this

Man, Famke Janssen is so effin hot. That goes double for D_Rex's avatar...

I trust both Raimi and Del Toro to try to make films that will actually effect kids rather than take up their time. And if Famke gets cast in THE SUBSTITUE my head will explode.

I dig this idea. I won't mind if it's family friendly as long as it's GOOD family friendly stuff. Stuff like Gremlins and Monster Squad are what usually come to my mind for something like this. And you have Raimi and Del Toro on the opposite ends working and competing in this.
