Legendary action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping might be best known for his work on THE MATRIX and KILL BILL(s), but he's been a noted filmmaker in Hong Kong for decades (see IRON MONKEY or WING CHUN for a sample of the man's capabilities).

He hasn't spent too much time in Hollywood lately, getting back behind the camera and the kicking for old-school action (and sound effects!) in the period martial arts epic TRUE LEGEND (SU QI-ER). Check the trailer below for a welcome dose of flying fists and feet. Whoo-PAH!

The synopsis: Su Qi-Er, a wealthy man living during the Qing Dynasty who loses his fortune and reputation as a result of a conspiracy against him. After being forced out onto the streets, Su dedicates his life to martial arts and reemerges as a patriotic hero known as the "King of Beggars."

Extra Tidbit: Aside from Woo Ping's frequent fight queen Michelle Yeoh, TRUE LEGEND features Jay Chou, aka Kato from the upcoming GREEN HORNET.

Looks like Yuen Woo Ping's still got it. Looking forward to seeing this one. Hope Jackie Chan see's this trailer, and gets back on the trolly.

At least this doesn't involve babysitting bratty kids and a pig with Disney-fied hijinks for the whole family! Definitely looks like it's worth keeping an eye on! Still hesitant with the involvement of Jay Chou...
On a lighter note, if no one is aware of this, it's based on a famous chinese character that has been prominently featured in past kung fu movies named Begger So. Wo Ping's ...

On a lighter note, if no one is aware of this, it's based on a famous chinese character that has been prominently featured in past kung fu movies named Begger So. Wo Ping's dad and Donnie Yen have taken a stab at the character. I think most people (if they are real hardcore HK/Jackie Chan fans) would know the character from the first Drunken Master as his, well, 'Drunken Master!!'
