Reitman adores Pilgrim Oct. 26, 2009

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is apparently mind blowing. At least this is the vibe I got from Jason Reitman's tweets.

One of the benefits of being Edgar Wright's friend is that you might get to see early footage from his movies. Well, that's exactly what Reitman got from his buddy, 30 minutes of PILGRIM.

The movie won't come out until sometime next year, but is already one of the most anticipated. Plus, everyone could use more Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I am fans of both Reitman and Wright, so it would be an honor to see any early footage of theirs. Wright made Reitman swear secrecy after he got the peek, and it sounds like the best peek ever:

In London, @edgarwright showed me 30min of Scott Pilgrim. While sworn to secrecy (so much, surprised blood wasn’t demanded) I will say this: It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It moves the speed of light and carries more unadulterated joy than I've seen in recent cinema. SP does what everyone our age has been dreaming about: achieves the first all encompassing film of the joystick generation. I’m in awe of the sheer control in the filmmaking. It feels like a “Matrix” for love and how willing we are to fight for it. If I had a movie coming out next year, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near it. Hats off my friend. Can’t get it out of my head.

I don't know about any of you, but that just sent my excitement level through the roof.

So...um...would you like to maybe, make out?

Extra Tidbit: Who is the better director? Reitman or Wright? I bet Wright wins this one.

In truth, until I see "Scott Pilgrim" I won't know how much of Wright is him and how much is Simon Pegg. Although I gather Wright's style is his own, Pegg has been incredibly influential as a co-writer on his movies until now.

Jason Reitman and Edgar Wright are two different types of directors; it's hard to really consider one better than the other. Wright directs goofy British comedies with outrageous stories, while Reitman makes dramedies where the humor is centered mostly in real-life situations. I don't know if these two directors would be successful trying to switch styles so I don't see a comparison necessary. They are both good at what they do.

I'm absolutely stoked for this one. I've read the 6 books out right now and love them all. And to have Edgar Wright directing was a dream. Having Reitman confirm it's awesomeness is just icing on the cake.

As for the best one, I'll definitely take Wright for this round.

Shaun, Fuzz, Spaced. 'Nuff said.

And more Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a win as well, I must say.

The script was waaay too Juno-y for me, way overboard with hip talk. That being said, the cast is awesome (Cera and Shawrtzman) and Edger Wright is an amazing director, based on Hot Fuzz and Shaun. So I will reserve judgment for finished flick.

I'm gonna say Wright, because Hot Fuzz is one of my top 20 movies, but both are on my list of top 10 directors. I do love Thank You for Smoking and Juno though.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble getting excited for this one. I've been debating on reading it, as my one friend raves about the series, and the film has some good talent - but every time I read what the story is about it just sounds...boring or lame.

I mean, I just can't see how what appears to be a teenager romantic comedy movie could be interesting.
