Strike Back below!

It's been in theaters for almost a full week now (and was briefly online last week in bootleg form) but now the new 3 minute and 30 second trailer for AVATAR is finally here in HD! For all the people who were skeptical after seeing the original trailer, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what this trailer has in store. It's leaps and bounds ahead of what the teaser was offering (which is strange to say, because normally I'm a big fan of teasers). Though I'm not surprised that adding some context to these complex visuals helps a great deal.

You can watch the new trailer below or head here to watch it in HD. And as reported earlier today, the trailer will run this Sunday on Fox along with new 90-second commercials for the film. We've also included a whole mess of screencaps below the embedded trailer for your viewing pleasure. As always, let us know what you think in the Strike Backs below!

I was more on Cameron's side with the first trailer. This one makes the acting fairly wooden and lays out enough of the story that I yawn. Seriously... I've seen this story before. Maybe he expects us to forget that it's a rehashed old sci-fi cliche' story because of all the pretty pictures, but I'm losing faith.

Breathtaking...
This trailer is just that. This is the kind of movie that should have came out in the 80s, back when the audience knew how to appreciate epic Sci-fi.

Now everyone just wants remakes, sequels, and comic book movies. It's all about nostalgia these days. I'm personally sick of it.

You may not like the design of the creatures, but that's something completely different. It has nothing to do with how real the creatures look and act.

Any person working in the VFX industry will tell you that from a technical standpoint, Avatar has raised the bar much higher than it's ever been raised in the past.

To say that they look "ridiculously bad" is to say that you have absolutely no eye for quality visual effects. That's how ridiculous and over the top that statement is.

Do you just hate James Cameron? I don't get it.

I was a doubter, even a hater. This trailer sold me and then some. This film is going to be a wild ride.

Although Michael Mann is my favorite director of all-time, Cameron is probably next in line. Even since I was a young boy his movies inspired me to take in interest in science, be it reality or fiction in many ways. He just hits a style nerve when it comes to how I want to enjoy the genre of movie. Plus there are not many other sci-fi movies that are accepted by such a wide and diverse audience...

What are people expecting an art house Coen brothers film? This is pure James Cameron sci-fi fantasy. It looks like it could be Cameron's best. I can't wait to see it in IMAX Real D the way it was developed.

How old is everyone?
Just wondering what the demographic is for this movie. I'm not THAT old (only 39, for Pete's sake!) but this movie has such a tepid, hoary feel that I'm starting think I'm at the age where movies have come full circle and we're seeing the same old thing all over again.

26 and while I agree that the story does kinda feel familiar (Dances with Wolves,Last Samurai) its the execution that counts and I for one has 110% faith in James Cameron.

Raiders of the Lost Ark received the same criticism when it first came out. And they were technically right, Indiana Jones is a rehash of many of the old adventure serials that used to play constantly. It was the execution that made it great (that, and the audience back then wasn't the cynical & hateful fanboys of today).

I'm going to be the broken record and say this looks epic. Not too jazzed about the CGI, but that's mainly because I've always been a practical effects guy. Give me a guy in a well-made suit over motion capture any day. There's too much for my taste, but there's no way I'm ever going to pass up a James Cameron movie. Glad he's resurfaced.

But I have to say Stephen Lang is dra...

OK trailer for a great-looking movie.
While the trailer was certainly epic in length, it didn't achieve the spectacle feel that the TITANIC trailer did 12 years ago, or even the "2012" trailer earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, I'm still completely jazzed about AVATAR and it's release, I only hope other sci-fi enthusiasts feel the same.

This film looks amazing. James Cameron is in top form here, very reminiscent of his days of Terminator, Aliens, & The Abyss.

I was hoping for this movie to be good since I read the script a while back. But.......I don't know anymore. This is why I hate trailers. This movie looks pretty cheesy. The CG and the acting look incredibly stale. Might spend my $$ on something else this Winter.

Cameron has always had a consistent vision of the future. You can see it in Aliens, Terminator, and now Avatar. Halo heavily cherry picked Cameron's vision.

Thank you Mr.Cameron I feel like I'm fifteen again in a good way. Like when Jurassic Park came out and blew everyone away. I know It's Cameron but I also know Cameron always delivers. Even Titanic, though not my cup of tea still was a cinematic achievement!

This is how you put together a trailer! It looks so much better than it did on the teaser. And thank God for that. I think they could have told us less of the story, but it's fine nonetheless. This one I'm gonna see at the movie theater.

the only knack that can really be argued from a "devil's advocate" point of view is the design of the nav'i. The CGI? Absolutely breathtaking.. the color, texture and design patterns of their skin/facial structures.. I've seen nothing like it.

and how about finally getting a bit of the juicy plot? It looks like it'll play out AWESOME.. the action also looks fantastic and not f...

Looks good...
It def. looks very good, sure. Though I think once the Na'vi (is that right?) show up it goes down a bit. I guess it just seem like the Na'vi will look dated faster than the rest of the movie. I give the Na'vi a year before they look like what Spider-Man 1 looks like now.

Though I'm sure it'll be a fun movie.

Wow, worlds away from the teaser. You can see the scope of the film, it looks epic. The animation is gorgeous and rich. I think it'll blow people's minds in IMAX 3D!!

Now I actually want to see this film. The first trailer was very vague and was basically showing off the effects that Cameron has been talking about for the past 10 years. But the story looks good, the effects look great and I can actually say this is something I'm excited for.

Anyone still hating on this film is ridiculous. How much more do you possibly need?? And to prefuse, how do you not know what the plot is by this trailer? You're obviously simple-minded so your comment is pointless. And I agree with kru3ger. This looks great and I cant wait to see it opening day.

I've tried to stay away from all the hype surrounding this movie, and now watching this trailer, its simply fuckin amazing. For those you who are disappointed by this trailer, I cant imagine what you were hoping for.. this looks spectacular!

Sorry, but this still looks incredibly lame. Titanic does not stand the test of time, the actors are all weak aside from Ribisi and Weaver, the plot is well... still not really sure what the plot is, and the special effects are still cheesy. Sorry, just not sold yet.

Why? Because the effects in Avatar are the best the world has ever seen, hands down.

When people are saying the CGI is iffy and meh are you just saying compared to the hype or in general? Cause in general it is amazing and better then anything out there right now. As far as the hype (as far as the effects go) I could see it not living up to it cause hype is a movies worst enemy. Anyway looks amazing and I can't wait

The trailer sold me on the movie, no doubt.. the CGI looks breathtaking EXCEPT for a couple of the scenes with the Nav'i.. they look like the same old CGI in some scenes, yet in some they have sweat glands and beautiful structure.

I'm sure it will be fantastic.

oh my god! whoever edited this trailer together deserves and oscar right now! very impressive - story is old, BUT the technology and 3D imax will create a whole new movie experience - fukn AWESOME!

LOL yeah they've listed almost all of JC's movies, why not Abyss? Its definitely on par with T2,Aliens and Titanic and one of my most favorite.
