Here's another round of man vs. robot.

Dreamworks and Doubleday have quickly snatched up the filming and publishing rights to Daniel H. Wilson’s unpublished, ROBOPOCALYPSE. It sounds like they are very excited and ready to get this thing into development.

Wilson amazingly enough has a Ph.D. in robotics, and is using his knowledge for an authentic perspective of robot technology. Co-president of Dreamworks, Mark Sourian said this on the author, "Daniel H. Wilson's cautionary tale of man versus machine grabbed us from the very beginning. Wilson's background in robotics and artificial intelligence grounds his story with a frightening level of realism."

ROBOPOCALYPSE won't actually be published until 2011. Even though there isn't a plot for the book yet, one has to wonder what sort of twist Wilson will put in his story. Wilson plans to make the robots proud, "Writing this novel is an incredible thrill, after spending years studying and thinking about robotics. My hope is that the story we tell will make the robots of the future proud of us humans."

The robo author's works are quite popular at the moment with Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant developing a screenplay for Wilson's book "How to Survive a Robot Uprising: Tips on Defending Yourself Against the Coming Rebellion". Nickelodeon also acquired the rights for Wilson's next book, "Bro-Jitsu: The Martial Art of Sibling Smackdown".

Extra Tidbit: I wish I had a Ph.D. in robotics.

I bet this'll turn out to be another Monsters vs. Aliens or Sunny with a Chance of Meatballs where it doesn't quite fulfill its promise. In the hands of Pixar, this would most likely be an instant classic.

Sounds like this guy could give us all sorts of possibly interesting new robot vs. human interplay. And Sibling Smackdown?

Anyway, I'm just interested cuz hey, the sub-genre's almost run into the ground...

Anyway, I'm just interested cuz hey, the sub-genre's almost run into the ground but now somebody who actually studies this stuff is coming along, and maybe he'll give us something new to run with.
