Jem gets outrageous?

Just the other day, I was sitting around and wondering how it was that "Jem and the Holograms" managed to escape the cartoons-adapted-to-movies trend. I assumed that JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS might've killed it for any future movies based on female-led cartoon rock bands but it turns out I might have been premature. (BTW, don't spend too much time wondering why I was sitting around thinking about "Jem.")

The truly, truly, truly outrageous rock star is making a big comeback at Hasbro that will include a new toy line and the possibility of a live-action movie. Why now? Well first, Hasbro is flush with cash after the successes of both TRANSFORMERS and GI JOE. Second, it turns out the rights to the property were tied up in legal red tape until 2008 and now that they belong solely to Hasbro, they're moving forward with a revival.

If you're unfamiliar with "Jem," I suggest you take a listen to this classic theme song. The plot was very Hannah Montana-esque with a girl living a double life as a glamorous rock star. Most of the drama revolved around the rival rock back The Misfits who look to upstage the Holograms and steal their glory. (Spoiler alert: it never works.)

Extra Tidbit: "Jem" has never been released on DVD.

I would love to see Jem brought back! Love the image, where did it come from? And approximately 2/3 of the Jem series was released on Rhino DVD -- they lost the rights before the final set came out.

Just don't update it. I think this could work if the now-retro 80's appeal was left in. If it were done now, it would be just like any ex-Disney feaux angry JCPenny "rocker" tween. Basically Hannah Montana.

not surprised
It was just a question of WHEN and not IF it would happen. I guess the next thing is who's gonna direct.

I nominate Diablo Cody and as for the cast; just a bunch of South Beach/O.C/90210 rejects (with Stephen Baldwin as Eric Raymond)

Great! Now I can't get that damn theme song out of my head.

If they do make this into live-action movie, please use Jems and the Holograms name - not Jems & something & so on. And yeah, that theme is so classic. Among my favorite cartoon theme with Sabre Rider and M.A.S.K.
