Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Nov. 5, 2009

It's certainly looking like KICK-ASS was a gamble that will pay off. Director Matthew Vaughn (STARDUST, LAYER CAKE) independently financed the movie, based on the high-concept shock book by WANTED comic writer Mark Millar. Massive fan response at Comic Con then led to a studio bidding war, and now Lionsgate has the movie coming out in April (with enough confidence to bump Sly's THE EXPENDABLES from that date into August).

The ultraviolent story revolves around a geeky teen who randomly decides to become a costumed hero (cleverly named, um, Kick-Ass), and mostly fails at it quite painfully. Nic Cage and Chloe Moretz play a violent father-daughter crimefighter team, Mark Strong is the gangster in their sights, and SUPERBAD's Christopher Mintz-Plasse is a costumed competitor named Red Mist.

We're starting to catch some more buzz on the flick, including word from advance screenings and now a series of poster images at IGN. Click the amateur superhero below to check them out!

I'm now more intrigued about this since meeting Mark Strong at work a couple of weeks ago. He actually brought the comic in with him as he hadn't actually read the source material before and quite happily sat at his table munching on some oysters and reading a hyper violent comic and giving me some of the skinny on what to expect. I'm looking forward to this.

meh
this could be the next boondock saints. which is awful, but trying to remain optimistic. the mask with the mouth opening still bugs me and hit girl in a school uniform is already redundant and cliche. on the plus side the poster reminded me of louis ck, who is hilarious!

My buddy *cough* also just saw it at the Arclight. It did indeed Kick Ass. Really, what Watchmen and Hancock should have been, a bad ass (kick ass?) twist on the super hero genre... with extreme violence and liberal doses of dark humor. Hate to say it, but the title really does say it all...

My buddy saw this tonight at a pre-screening at Arclight Hollywood. He said it was AMAZING. One of the best comic book films ever and up in the ranks with , believe it or not, The Dark Knight. My friend knows his shit too so I'm pretty damn pumped for this.

Mark Millar...
When they came out with the option to make the movie after the very first issue of the comic, if I remember right, Mark Millar began to delay the subsequent issues...Its almost a sales pitch more than a graphic novel.

Add to the ultra violent imagery solely tacked on to sell it, am not too keen.

I can take violence, but can we have some context for a change? Just b...

I can take violence, but can we have some context for a change? Just because you can bash someone's head and see it cave in, doesn't mean you should...on every page.

I actually enjoyed Stardust and Lock Stock, Snatch, and Layer Cake we excellent films. I had no idea Vaughn was directing KickAss but my interest has just peaked
