Leaked Vatican Tapes Nov. 9, 2009

With the success of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, Hollywood is turning to their tried and true practice of "If it worked once, it will work again." That's why we're seeing yet another "found footage" horror movie in the form of THE VATICAN TAPES from MAN ON WIRE director James Marsh.

The tape in question is said to be that of an exorcism gone wrong inside the Vatican, which COULD be cool, especially with a capable director like Marsh at the helm. And honestly, I said it “worked once” but really, found tape films have produced BLAIR WITCH, REC and CLOVERFIELD, in addition to PARANORMAL, which isn’t anything to sneeze at. I would consider THE FOURTH KIND and REC remake, QUARANTINE, to be examples to the contrary, but all in all you have to admit the genre has a pretty good track record.

Just please don’t start with a viral campaign trying to convince us that there’s actually a leaked tape from the Vatican proving the existence of the devil or something. We know it’s a movie, just make it a good one.

Extra Tidbit: I had more than one gullible friend convinced that PARANORMAL was real tape going into the movie. They stopped believing me right around the time the Ouija board caught on fire. Way to go guys.

I'm always down with. CLOVERFIELD was a surprise.

"We know it's a good movie, just make it a good one". Couldn't have said it better

Cannibal Holocaust should also be mentioned when talking about movies based on "Found Footage"

As far as Quarantine goes who was the idiot who thought putting the ending in the trailer was a good idea.<...

the acting in Quarantine was so terrible that a lot of people in the theater I was at burst out laughing in a few scenes. REC owned Quarantine in every single way, and the spanish actually added to the mood of the film if you ask me.

I have no problem with subtitles, I refuse to watch a movie dubbed.. it's crap.

Uhhh i HAVE to say that I didn't like Quarentine... I mean it was okay but nothing short of amazing like [Rec}... It was much scarier, more suspense, better acting, and th final 15 minutes were just top notch... Not bashing or anything, thats just my opinion

I have to agree here. Not with the subtitle bit, but with Quarantine being better than [REC]. They improved upon an already amazing movie.

So most of the props have to go to [REC] for coming up with the idea in the first place, but Quarantine was an improvement.

But yeah, I'll take subtitles over dubbing any day. Acerbus, you don't do yourself any favors on this site by saying, "Me no like reading when me watch movie. LOL."

Would you rather have watched it dubbed? dear lord, I'll take subtitles any day...
I can't stand how some people put this as a dumb american thing though... How many times do you see dubbed versions of American Films and it's atrocious to watch? Apparently the average American isn't the only one that doesn't like to read. Americans just seem to be more vocal against subtitles.

You can't speak Spanish so that makes the Spanish version inferior? This logic wreaks of typical American. I'm not trying to sound too mean here, man. It just gets frustrating constantly hearing people complain about subtitles at the expense of good films (had to deal with it all the time at Blockbuster). At least you gave props to [REC] though. Props to YOU on doing that much.
