Are you ready to go back to SILENT HILL?

It might be happening according to special makeup effects designer Paul Jones. He gave somewhat of an update, "I was working on storyboards for that around the same time last year. It's going to be pretty crazy. There's a lot of cool stuff in there. Roger (Avary) has some awesome ideas and hopefully we're going to bring that to fruition sometime next year." Jones couldn't comment on whether the script was complete, but smiled while saying so.

So is it finished? Or is the guy just really happy? Either way, it might be interesting to see another HILL film. The first was pretty decent. Gross as all hell too. I'm wondering if they will actually use the story from the second game or if they will explore other games in the series.

I tried to play SILENT HILL but could not get through it. Everything about it was really cool except for the fact that it scared the crap out of me. I was a total weeny about it and should try again one day.

The plot for the second game was about new character, James who goes to the HILL after receiving a letter from his dead wife, Mary that she is waiting for him in their "special place" within the town. I remember the game getting good ratings when it came out so maybe it will be the one to follow up with. Will this be what Avary works on after he gets out of the slammer? Maybe he'll tweet us some updates.

Silent Hill is by far the best video game to movie adaptation to date. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it's a great movie. Don't get me wrong, I liked the film, I think visually they got the look of Silent Hill right, but the story was way off track. They just tried too hard to fit too much of the series into one movie. Don't get me wrong, I liked the film, I think visually they got the look of Silent Hill right, but the story was way off track. They just tried too hard to fit too much of the series into one movie. I love Pyramid Head, but he served no purpose in the movie, he was there so fans would go "Oh, look, it's Pyramid Head, I recognize him." And what the fuck was with the cult of witch hunters in the town? The game was scary because you were essentially by yourself in the town (with the exception of one or two other "normal" characters) but they put a bunch of random crazy people in the town in the movie and I thought that was a major fuck up and totally took away from the feel of Silent Hill.

I'd like to see a sequel, but I'd like to see a sequel that keeps the same visual flair without sacrificing story. Furthermore, how is Avery writing a sequel if he's going to jail? Personally, I could do without him, his script was really what was wrong with the first movie. Keep Gans, lose Avery.

I'm also a big SH fan, but that film adaptation was sloppy and rushed. Also, the movie was actually TOO much like the game. Half the time I felt like I was watching a video game rather than a movie. I hate how most VG adaptations change too much, but you can't just copy the game either. You have to effectively translate the story into a different meaning without losing the spirit and identity of the original source material, and not one single VG movie has managed to do that yet.

And, yes, it is the best VG movie to date (outside of Japan), but that isn't saying much.

I actually enjoyed the 1st film (the 3rd act didnt work for me though) enough to be down with a 2nd. They should skip the next couple games though and go straight to "The Room" that one has a solid plot, and it was scary as hell...

Leave the game and Gans out of it.
I did not, in any way shape or form, enjoy the first silent hill movie. Thankfully it has been mostly erased from my memory after a few years.

That said I wouldn't mind a new Silent Hill movie so long as it's a new creative team. I thought the first movie tried far too hard to be like the game and sacrificed genuine fear for cartoony poor cg and leather pants.

I'm also fine with a sequel so long as they don't touch the video game version of Silent Hill 2. I don't care what they do with any other game, but SH 2 is in my list of top 3 games I've ever played and I would hate to see it treated the way Gans and co. treated the first one.

Outstanding News
I'm actually looking forward to this.
"If" they go with the Silent Hill 2 (+ Restless Dreams)story.
[link]
I think it would translate well into live action.

Well, Pyramid Head shouldn't have even been in the first one...
[VIDEO GAME SPOILERS]... since he was an apparition specifically for James in SH2. However, I guess Avary and Gans just HAD to put him in the first one because he looks so damn cool. The first movie was mediocre and didn't do the universe quite as much justice as it could have, but it wasn't raped like Doom or Resident Evil.

Quite right you are, and I think that's EXACTly the reason they put him in there. I can sort of understand why you'd wanna do it, if it's the only SH movie ever made than it would be a missed opportunity not to see the "coolest" monster of the series realized in live-action.

I wouldn't have minded it as much if they had given him an actual role and not just disappear half-way through the film with no explanation whatsoever. That and they made him look like some queer medieval viking of sorts.

I think it was raped however, and even worse. Like molesting a rotting corpse with most of the torso eaten away.

I'm not ashamed to admit the first Silent Hill is my favorite horror film. I love the atmosphere, the creepy monsters, the music and the nightmarish sequences. I've been waiting forever for news on this sequel and I'm glad to hear it's still being prepped.

Yes, they did recycle the music from the games. One - that's just lazy, and two - they didn't use it well at all. I'm pretty sure I'm alone in this but here's why...

One really cool thing to note is that all of the music used in the movie was taken directly from the games (specifically: the soundtracks to SH2 and SH3).

I'm the biggest SH fan here...
And I've long contended that the movie was simply an atrocious, abysmal, deplorable, abomination of a complete failure at an attempt to adapt the brilliant source material of the game(s). I actually consider it the WORST video game movie made yet, given how much potential the Japanese games have.

I have no hope for this sequel unless they keep writing implements away from Avary while he's in the slammer, kick him off the project and hire a good writer and director to helm it.

I liked the Silent Hill film. I realize its not the greatest film ever, but like others said its one the best video game movies. I be psyched to watch another based off Silent Hill 2's plot. Hopefully its done right and much better than the first.

Very cool.
The first Silent Hill was my favorite video game movie, I was wondering when I would finally see some info about a sequel.
