Curious to see what a remake of the Coen Brothers' noir classic BLOOD SIMPLE might look like if it was made by acclaimed Hong Kong filmmaker Zhang Yimou (HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS)?

Wonder no more, and witness the decidedly zany trailer below. The period movie is apparently either going by the title THE FIRST GUN or AMAZING TALES: THREE GUNS, although the rough translation of the Chinese title "San Qiang Pai An Jing Qi" is "THE STUNNING CASE OF THE THREE GUN SHOTS." The movie stars Chinese actor Sun Honglei, comedian Xiao Shenyang and actress Yan Ni,

The Coen's original 1985 black comedy revolved around an adulterous affair between a bartender and Abby, his boss' wife. When her husband Marty learns of the situation, he hires a lowlife detective to have them killed, leading to double-crosses, mixed messages and murderous mishaps.

Extra Tidbit: While promoting the film in China (where it premieres in December), Zhang was reportedly rapping out the lyrics to the film's theme song, which he wrote.

Well at least it isn't a Hollywood remake and at least it's not a shot for shot retelling. Nothing to argue about from me. Looks hilarious and stylish. Seems like an asian Coen Bros movie to me.

Almost nothing seemed reminiscent of Blood Simple except maybe the basic idea of a man wanting to kill his cheating wife, even that was obvious without the subtitles. And Yimou Zhang is a terrific director, he made great films (House of Flying Daggers, To Live, Raise the Red Lantern, among others) so this should be very interesting.
