Classic literature fans rejoice! Amidst all the video games and toys being turned into movies, someone out there still thinks it's a good idea to make films out of classic novels. Granted, "Jane Eyre" has had a ton of onscreen adaptations to date, both in TV and film, but it’s been awhile, so it appears it’s about time for another one.

INGLOURIOUS BASTERD’s Michael Fassbender and ALICE IN WONDERLAND’s Mia Wasikowska are said to be attached to the BBC films project, with SIN NOMBRE director Cary Fukunaga behind the camera. So for us non-English majors out there, what’s the book about?

“The project is a period piece but will play up the gothic elements of the story about Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret. The book is one of the most iconic in English literature and has been the subject of numerous previous adaptations.”

Gothic? Secret? Surly? Sounds good to me. I do sort of wish they would get around to making PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WITH ZOMBIES though.

Extra Tidbit: Ellen Page was originally attached to this project as Jane, but she dropped out a while back.

Cool
Jane Eyre – along with Pride & Prejudice and Wuthering Heights – seems to be one of those books everyone goes to whenever they want to do one of the 'classics.' Not necessarily a bad thing, but it does make one wish they'd use a couple of others . . . Northanger Abby, perhaps?

I'd also love to See Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. While we're at it, The Eyre Affair would rock too.

sorry MDJ, but you're just another classic case of the school system failing to teach what is actually important about this work. i'm sure they said it was gothic romance and a classic and left it at that. this piece was one of many in the dialogue of gothic lit, but surpassed them by having its own awareness of how ridiculous previous phantasmagorical works were. film adaptations don't say...

i like the shout-out to English majors. we would be the only ones appreciating this.
