This clip is from SDCC earlier this year, but I thought given the current box office standings it was newly relevant and worthy of posting.

In the video, Smith takes on the Twilight phenomenon which ended up invading the SDCC in a big way this year, and over a chorus of initial boos he explains why he doesn’t have as big a problem with the franchise as everyone else. He says what Star Trek and Star Wars is to 20-40 year-old guys, Twillight is to 8-18 year-old girls (plus a few of their moms), and we shouldn’t begrudge them their fandom, lest we come off as hypocrites.

But in typical Kevin Smith form, by the end it turns into more or less a standup routine about how much Rob Pattinson should be getting laid. In any case, it’s quite funny and you should check it out below.

Extra Tidbit: But the point remains that it's indisputable that STAR WARS is better acted and written that TWILIGHT. Errrr, at least the original trilogy...

Actually twilight was a good movie
I saw it on TV recently. Sure, it starts slow but then again our idea of "romance" is the stuff they show late at night on the Playboy channel. Check out Ebert's review: he says that if you take out the vampires then it's the story of a young boy who doesn't want to go all the way with a girl (ie suck the life out of her) and a young girl who is very willing. That's hot.

Bad acting? Bad script? Shitty movie? I sure hope no Star Wars or Star Trek fans used those words, because both franchises have multiple shitty movies in them, and I say that as a long time Star Wars fan and recent Trek convert. Really, Twilight is no more horrible, no more sensationalism, than any other blockbuster, they just take more heat online because male nerds better know how to express ...

Really, Twilight is no more horrible, no more sensationalism, than any other blockbuster, they just take more heat online because male nerds better know how to express their hateful opinions on the net. ALL blockbusters are sentsationalism, because that's the point. Hollywood is giving you a giant movie you HAVE to have. No other way to make back budget. Even you people who are "sort of" defending Twilight are coming off as self-loathing nerds. The only reason its any worse than Wars, Trek, Spider-Man, Pirates, Transformers, or any other franchise is that it's not aimed at you. I've never seen a Twilight movie, but at least I have the good sense to realize this.

but the fact remains that whether or not worse movies have been made with a large or larger fan base, this exploitation of culture is a pretty ridiculous one. it's sensationalism, and people eat it up without thinking. in my opinion, that deserves some criticism. these movies are so popular because they are everywhere and people are basically told to like it.

People will always fight about their opinion on movies. Instead of saying "you liked the acting in the Star Wars prequels? You know nothing about movies!" people are now saying "you liked the acting in the Twilight series? You know nothing about movies!" I see absolutely no difference in the bashing of Twilight to the bashing of any other successful, yet poorly critically received film.

They can keep making all the damn Twilight movies they want. Movies aren't universal, and no one is making you pay to see anything. I saw the first Twilight, didn't really like it. End of story. I've seen worse movies that have made far more money! (I'm talking to you Transformers 2)

I dont think its worth hating the Twilight fans. Every franchise has its fans so why would this one be worse than others ? Saw is worse, six movies have been made and I dont see anyone hating the fans. Call them dumb, whatever you want, but hate is pushing it too far. Especially, since some of the haters probably liked Wolverine or Transformers...

i totally agree with you, we call them stupid and crazy for liking this movie but havent people called us and others the same thing for liking other movies also

while i can understand why people wouldnt like these movies and i dont really think they deserve this kind of fandom, but at the same time why are we judging something that we have done to other movies before (better or not), just let them have there thing as its only gonna last 4 movies at least for now
