Strike Back below!
by: George Merchan Dec. 15, 2009

Few films earn my immediate attention like a Ridley Scott film... especially when the film involves horses, swords, and Russell Crowe in total gon'-f*ck-shit-up mode.

Below is our first look at the trailer for ROBIN HOOD. And I think as we've all suspected from the get-go, it heavily recalls Scott's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and GLADIATOR (and I don't know, there's even a little something of LEGEND there to me). The 72-year-old British director obviously knows how to make these types of films in his sleep, and oddly enough, I don't feel like it's become old hat yet. Watching a master craftsman do what he does best is a good thing.

Also, The Courier-Mail has gotten hold of 8 new photos from the film, including the one above. Check 'em all out RIGHT HERE.

ROBIN HOOD is set to open May 14, 2010. For an HD version of the trailer, CLICK HERE.

Source: The Courier-Mail

Extra Tidbit: If you haven't already, I strongly suggest checking out the Director's Cut of Scott's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, a film I'm not hesitant to call a masterpiece.

YES!!!
Crowe & Ridley Scott. The best actor/director duo around. I also agree on your comment on the director's cut of KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. It's a whole other movie, a much better one.

Where did Orlando Bloom go? Did he go to Lead Actor School or something? I know it sucks being in Depp's shadow, but he vanished himself. Must be haning out with Chris Tucker. Do i miss him?

But ya Hood will be at least good. Ridley makes good movies. Period.

Ridley Scott makes good movies. And every so often, he makes a great movie that will stand the test of time. His 'misses' are few and far between. Spielberg could take a lesson.

I'm sure.
I'm sure this will kick massive ass and own everything, but for right now I'm hesitant. Seems like Gladiator part 2.

But Ridley Scott and Crowe can't be denied in my book. I am still confident I'm gonna love this in the end.

Looks cool enough for me, yet...
There are some scenes where it could easily pass as Gladiator 2: The Prequel, specially with Crowe's haircut. Anyway, I'm more than glad seeing Crowe and Scott together on another epic action movie.

I didnt need a lot more selling to actually see this movie. And I think it still looks great, but the beginning of the trailer seemed to horror-esque and the rock music was way out of place (more so here than Clash of the Titans was)

Do you think they're that stupid?
The "cardboard" shield is a LEATHER shield, common to the era when soldiers couldn't afford or didn't want to carry something as heavy as a wooden or metal shield. Check it again, and look at the detailing on the other shields.

It looks awesome, but... did I miss the part where this is the story of Robin Hood? It could have been ANYTHING, except for that title card at the end.

Couldn't agree more about the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Director's Cut.
While I actually enjoyed the theatrical cut of the film when I saw it, the extended version is masterpiece material.

I also love the way the film doesn’t vilify the Muslims like most films do. Scott managed to make a Western audience understand and even sympathize with the people who should (in terms of the movie) be the enemy of the piece. In fact, it is the Christians that commit the vilest acts in the film and you come away with an understanding of why Jerusalem is so important to so many people.

Really, really good film that doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

mehh, the original idea was so much better
the original concept about the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Crowe playing both characters sounded refreshing. this just looks like Robin Hood with a touch of Braveheart/Gladiator thrown in. I'm sure it will be pretty good, but i still dont like the fact that they scrapped the original concept.

Same lighting, same lenses, same actor! Here's hoping the script is good/interesting, as there is nothing new in this trailer that we haven't seen in Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven.

Same lighting, same lenses...? Oh, the tedium of it all....
Well, gee, Mr. Oscar-nominated Director of Photography, tell us all how YOU would light and film in the woods?

Scott, Crowe, horses, armor, swords - I'm SO there ! No-one does historical epics like Scott.

Indeed it is. I didn't think much of it when I saw Kingdom Of Heaven in the theater. But the Director's Cut changed my opinion on that movie entirely. I don't even mind Orland Bloom's acting. I even think his acting contributed for the nature of his character.

I really enjoy kingdon of heaven, though easily it's largest flaw is orlando bloom. If almost anyone else had starred than I'd agree with you that it's a masterpiece. Though to Blooms' credit it's by far his best performance.

The trailer was great, it's just a little hard for me (so far, I'll likely get used to it) to see Russell as Robin Hood.
