Strike Back below!
by: Niki Stephens Feb. 4, 2010

David Tennant is out, but many others have been added to the cast of BURKE AND HARE.

So far we have: Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, Isla Fisher, Tom Wilkinson, and a small part for Stephen Merchant.

Now prepare to geek out to the new names joining the cast: Jessica Hynes (SPACED, SHAUN OF THE DEAD), Bill Bailey (HOT FUZZ), Reece Shearsmith (SHAUN OF THE DEAD), Christopher Lee, Tim Curry, Ronnie Corbett, Hugh Bonneville (NOTTING HILL), David Schofield (GLADIATOR, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN), Allan Corduner (FRED CLAUS), and Michael Smiley (SPACED).

Two of the actors shared time with Simon Pegg on the series SPACED, Jessica Hynes and Michael Smiley. Hynes will play the part of Serkis' long suffering wife.

I am more than eager to hear what they have in store for Lee and Curry. It's been awhile since I've seen Curry in anything decent. As far as Lee is concerned, he is always in something wonderful playing someone spectacular.

For those who aren't caught up on the plot, it's based on the real exploits of the two men, BURKE AND HARE. It will follow the Edinburgh-based (Irish by birth) body snatchers William Burke (Pegg) and William Hare (Serkis) who realize that selling corpses to medical schools can be good business. When they start to run out of bodies, things get a bit out of control.

This will be a return to feature films for John Landis, who hasn't directed a movie since 1998. Landis describes the film as, “A very black romantic comedy in the classic tradition of the Ealing Studios' KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS and THE LADYKILLERS.” We are ready Landis! Bring this shit on!

Extra Tidbit: You might also recognized Hynes from DOCTOR WHO. She played Joan Redfern in two separate episodes. I did not like her character in the least. Probably because I was jealous. Le sigh...

Awesome for Lee
Christopher Lee is one of those actors I wish could live forever. He's not in a lot of films, but he brings so much to everything he does. He was one of the only characters I liked in the Star Wars prequels.

AWESOME ADDITIONS
Some really good additions, I've been looking forward to this for ages. However I don't get why you've put Reece Shearsmith's main credit as Shaun of the Dead, when he was in it for about 20 seconds, and appeared in several Spaced episodes. So a bit off on the research, as Bill Bailey was in several episodes of spaced. So 4 actors shared screen time with simon pegg on spaced not 2. Glad Reece S...

20 seconds or not, I went with what people would be most familiar with. I can't guess how many people will know these actors. I have to cover the elementary movie fan as well as the scholar. You wouldn't believe how many people haven't seen SPACED. But thanks for the comment, I'll throw SPACED up there too.

This is going to be extraordinary. I can't wait to see Pegg and Serkis slumming through the Edinburgh vaults hunting whores and drifters.

Wow
This movie is officially on my radar now. That cast is pretty awesome. I'm especially glad to see Lee and Hynes getting more work.

I love Tim Curry and unfortunately haven't had the pleasure of seeing him in much over the last several years. It'll be great to see him shine again.

Wishful thinking I suppose. It was part of the Bill Nighty casting.

I'm guessing Lee and Curry will yet again be playing some form of antagonists. Not that I'm complaining, they are soooo good at it.
