The classic young-adult sci-fi fantasy novel A WRINKLE IN TIME, first released in 1962 from the late author Madeleine L'Engle, is looking to finally make the jump to the big screen proper.

Hired to adapt the novel is Jeff Stockwell (BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, THE DANGEROUS LIVES OF ALTER BOYS) and producing will be Cary Granat for his new Bedrock Studios (he was the former co-founder of Walden Media, which incidentally produced another noted fantasy tale: THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA).

According to THR, the Newbery Medal-winning novel "revolves around teenager Meg Murry, her genius brother Charles Wallace and classmate Calvin O'Keefe as they launch an interplanetary mission to rescue the siblings' missing scientist father. They are counseled along the way by the mysterious trio of Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which."

The hope is kick off a new franchise, as author L'Engle wrote a series of follow-up novels now known as the "Time Quintet", which the subsequent films would presumably follow.

Stockwell has in continuing development THE MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF EDWARD TULANE, KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE, and the Walter Salles-directed OUR WILD LIFE. Granat has the the 3D Bible epic IN THE BEGINNING, which I was making fun of not too long ago.

Extra Tidbit: "A Wrinkle in Time" has previously been adapted for television twice, once for the BBC and once for ABC. The ABC version, released in the United States in 2004, is mind-numbingly retarded.

Extra tidbit...
It's a toss-up between C.S. Lewis and Madeleine L'Engle as to which one is more blatantly using their fiction to force their Christian views down the throats of readers.

Interesting book, but absolutely distracting in how much bible thumping goes on between the lines.

Gotta wonder if that'll make it into the movie adaptation.

While I have no opinion on this book at all, "Cary Granat for his new Bedrock Studios" made me smile.

Time Travels!!!
This might be the best Time Traveling movie ever that I love so much. I love it so much because I love to go back in time and do so many sweet things and people ask what kind of sweet things?

And I say I am going to go back and write all the best movies like Summer School and Predator and Kickboxer and make 2 million dollars and put it in a bank account to have 5 million dollars...

And I say I am going to go back and write all the best movies like Summer School and Predator and Kickboxer and make 2 million dollars and put it in a bank account to have 5 million dollars now and also write some songs like Ice Cube's Go to Church and Bryan Adams We're in Heaven. So when I see time traveling movies and the charactors never do this I am like "this is so unrealistic" but this movie does it and so Oscar for best screenwriting goes to them.

Easily one of my favorite books as a kid. Hopefully they'll be able to strike the same balance of approachability and complexity that the book was able to achieve. If so, then it'll attract all the adult readers, as well as the childrens audience.
