Spielberg's Monster
Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg will produce the CGI-animated film MONSTER HOUSE for Columbia Pictures. Curiously enough the film was originally set up at Spielberg's home studio DreamWorks but was acquired in turnaround by Sony. MONSTER will be the second film produced using Zemeckis' ImageMotion "performance capture system" first employed on the upcoming Tom Hanks holiday film THE POLAR EXPRESS. Unlike POLAR though, this film is actually supposed to be creepy looking. The film will follow three kids who believe the house next door is actually a living monster but have trouble convincing the neighborhood's adults of that fact. Did I mention the kids will have empty, soulless, vacant eyes? The film will be written and directed by Gil Kenan who will make his feature debut after directing a number of successful shorts. Neither DreamWorks nor Zemeckis would comment on why the film had to be moved from DreamWorks where Spielberg sets up shop. Production will begin on the film later this August. POLAR EXPRESS hits theaters this November.
