Ain't It Cool News is reporting the latest issue of the LORD OF THE RINGS Official Fan Club Magazine has an interview with Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens that confirms THE LOVELY BONES will be their next project after KING KONG. Boyens said, "Our next project after KING KONG is THE LOVELY BONES," and Jackson added, "the plan is to make THE LOVELY BONES after KING KONG." BONES is Alice Sebold's successful novel that follows a 14-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered as she follows her family (and her killer) after death and watches how they deal. Jackson had been rumored to be directing BONES since this past April when talks began but there seemed to be no confirmation that the project was definitely coming. KONG is set to hit theaters this holiday season and Jackson could begin work on BONES in early 2006. As of now, the adaptation is not set up at any studio but the rights are controlled by British-based FilmFour. Every studio in Hollywood passed on the rights to the film before it was published and became a huge hit. Now, I'm sure, they're all clammoring to be involved. Stay tuned for more as this develops.
