Penn & Supes buddies

You may know Kal Penn as Kumar from HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE or you may know him, as CASTLE points out, as "that Indian guy from Van Wilder". I'll tell you what, though, come next year, everybody and their pet chihuahua is gonna know who Kal Penn is. The reason is that he's recently signed on as Superman's best friend in Bryan Singer's upcoming SUPERMAN RETURNS. According to director Mira Nair, while speaking to Rediff about her upcoming project THE NAMESAKE, she mentioned "Kal's film Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle was a hit and all the 13-year-olds in America know and love him…Namesake will be his first dramatic role. He is an extraordinary actor. He has just signed on as Superman's best friend in the new movie called Superman Returns. As soon as he finishes shooting for Namesake, he will shoot for that.
