Hugo Weaving has stepped in to replace James Purefoy in V FOR VENDETTA who left for undisclosed reasons. Filming began back in early March and it's unclear at this point how many of Purefoy's scenes will need to be reshot. VENDETTA will mark the reunion of Weaving and directors producers the Wachowski brothers, brought Weaving his biggest role as Agent Smith in the MATRIX trilogy. Weaving will step in and play the titular character, a vigilante in futuristic London who goes by the name V. V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey, a woman he has saved played by Natalie Portman, uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption. Filming continues on VENDETTA with Warner Bros. planning a November 4th release.
