Despite being my favorite movie of the year so far, I would likely NOT suggest that you buy the SIN CITY dvd, coming out on August 16th, if only because the studio is releasing it "bare-bones" (only one small featurette on it), with obvious financial reasons behind it. They're also releasing it in 5 variant covers which stinks of -- once again -- a studio out "on the take". If you're a real fan of the movie, I would suggest dissing this version, and waiting for the obvious 2 or 3-disc edition that will likely be announced in the next month or so. Until then, check out the various covers for this release, as well as its menu screens. F*ckin' studios double-dipping sucks.

Its 5 different covers, somewhat.
I work for blockbuster video and we get these magazines explaining whats coming out in the upcoming months. I read an article that said that sin city will have 5 different cover slips(the pointless cardboard that comes on most big titles recently)and the actual case will be the same shot of the whole main cast.

This should have been expected.
No one should be suprised by this. This is the same studio that brought us Kill Bill 1 & 2 on bare bones discs. The "extras" on this Sin City disc is the same as Kill Bill. Only problem is we are still waiting for the SE of Bill.

Do you think they are going to in a hurry to get the SE of Sin City out? I'd say about the time Sin City 2 comes out....

I dont care about special features
This made its way onto my favorite movies of all time list when I saw it. I really dont care abou special features. Sure its great if it had uber amounts of bonus material, but I just want to the movie for now. Plus I think I'll double dip on this. Why? I'll just pass the bare version to my sister and get the Ultra Mega Super Special Deluxe Editon for myself.

Overrated movie gets 5 covers!!
That should have the title of this article. Plus the covers themselves suck... I'm sure the special edition will be pulpy cool, bu what the heck, is unleashing this on the market a way of saying the general populos will swallow any crap theyre fed? Yes indeed. Rant ends... now.

I'm not surprised about the double dip. I was tempted to buy this when it came out, but with the obvious double dip coming very soon, I'll be patient and wait a little while. The waiting will pay off eventually. As for the Kill Bill films, I love the films, but not enough to wait for a special edition.

He said the DVD will divide the movie into its three graphic-novel stories, with some extra footage. "You'll be able to see each story separately," he said. What's really ironic about all this is the fact that Rodriguez has spoken out against such double-dipping (where it's an obvious money grab). I'm kind of surprised that he's not fighting the studio on this one.

I'll just rent this one and buy the SE when it comes out. At least they had the decency to say they are releasing a SE instead of waiting for everyone to buy the first release then tell them they are gonna make a SE.
