Star Wars TV news

More news is coming out about the 2 upcoming STAR WARS television shows. According to the most recent edition of "Entertainment Weekly" magazine, the first series will be a CG-animated series set during the Clone Wars featuring characters from the franchise (although Lucasfilm hasn't specified which ones, Lucas himself hinted that Boba Fett might be a part of that one). Also, according to his interview with Wizard magazine this month, CLERKS writer/director Kevin Smith has officially denied that he is attached to that TV series, as previously rumored -- in fact, he claims that he has never even met George Lucas!
In early 2007 however, Lucas will focus on what trilogy producer Rick McCallum is calling a "much darker and edgier" live-action series that would be set during the period after REVENGE OF THE SITH and before the original 1977 STAR WARS movie, and feature previously unseen characters (Hayden Christensen, aka Darth Vader, said that he would be hip to a cameo appearance). McCallum is currently interviewing writers for that series, which would apparently be shot by Lucas at a cost of about $1.8M per episode (and be shot in high definition...natch!). As per most of Lucas' projects, he will finance the series' himself, and then try and sell them to a network. Worse come to worse, McCallum said that if "nobody wants them...we'll put them on DVD". Yeah, right...like nobody's gonna want them.
