There's no details on the panel just yet (the full programming schedule will be available next week) but you can rest assured that James Cameron's AVATAR will have a big presence. How can we be sure? Well Fox and Comic-Con already have banners hanging up on lampposts in and around San Diego. The official Comic-Con Twitter feed updated today with some pics of the banner that show our first real look at a Na'vi. It's...well, hard to tell. It's a photo of a banner that's a close-up shot. It's intriguing definitely but we'll have to wait until we slap those big ole 3D goggles on in Hall H to really see what we're up against.

I guess the better question that this poster brings up (at least in my mind) is whether AVATAR can live up to the hype. It almost seems like some overzealous fanboys have built AVATAR up to be the second coming without having seen a single frame of the movie. What if, *gulp*, it's not as awesome as you made it out to be in your head? Can AVATAR possibly live up? I'm not saying it can't because perhaps it truly is a mindfuck, gamechanger or whatever you want to call it. But what if it's not?...

Extra Tidbit: As much as fanboys laughed at the girls squealing at TWILIGHT last year, I expect them to do the same when the AVATAR panel begins.

AVATAR!!!
As far as I'm concerned Cameron is right up there with the Coen brothers. Although Cameron filmography isn't nearly as long, the quality of work remains about the same. Just like the Coens, Cameron consistently makes great films.

I have no doubt that AVATAR will blow my mind.

Can someone explain what's so great about Avatar? Maybe I just haven't stayed up to date on my movie news, but everyone seems to be raving about it without having seen anything from the film itself. What's the big deal?

saw a video of footage from avatar. he says that it's the most beautiful thing he has seen and told me to believe the hype. i LOL'd idk i'm not hyped yet tho until i see a trailer at least.

I saw Transformers last night and was hoping to catch a peek of Avator, to no avail. So maybe it is a careful ploy not to show anything now to build our curiosity, so have patience fellow jobloers, December will come.

I'm not satisfied how Avatar is promoted. The film opens in December, now it's July, and there hasn't been teaser, nor any shown footage yet. And the longer the wait, the harder is going to get to build some serious hype.

I can't wait to see a trailer, but I must admit I find it refreshing for a Hollywood blockbuster to actually have some mystery behind it.

If you want to know the basic plot, jolanar, it's basically a SciFi version of Dances with Wolves / Pocahauntus with Mechs.

First person i have seen say they disliked it, let alone thought it was awful. Not only is it fucking hilarious, its got great action in it!!
And again, i never knew anyone actually though the abyss was bad.


Comparing James Cameron to Michael is fucking ridiculous. Seriously, you should be banned from Joblo.com. you're taste in movies is seriously fucking sour if you don't like James Cameron.

Listen, I mean, for some reason, people make Cameron out to be some sort of "God" director. He's not, for the most part, his movies have ground breaking special affects, thats all. Titanic was not an amazing movie, the special effects were. Aliens was good, but Alien was better, more like a horror movie.

Perhaps its the camera, but the image on the poster looks like a character from Zemeckis' 3D flicks; which will totaly suck if thats the case. But if the hype is to be believed, then I will hold out judgement till its release.

He showed 24 minutes and people basically confirmed what others have been saying all along. If you have a knowledge of 3D technology and have a caught some of the statements Cameron has made, you'd be excited to. By all accounts, it will be revolutionary. Does this mean it will be good? We obviously can't say at this point, but I'm just excited for the technology involved, which by the way, he ...

Cannot get into this movie. I get the feeling Cameron is getting to be a bit too arrogant for his own good. He thinks he is the shit. He has done some great films, but I have a bad feeling about this. I thought his two truly origianl ideas, The Abyss was OK, but a bit of a misfire. The Terminator was great too, but I am not a big T2 fan. I appreciate the technical side of that film, but it was ...
