Barbarella no more
Those of you who were looking forward to a big screen remake of BARBARELLA courtesy of Robert Rodriguez, bad news, it's not happening. Rodriguez recently spoke to MTV about it and turns out, he didn't want to have to make the film in Germany. When the budget bloated to about 80 million, Universal backed out but the only outside financing he could find after that was a German company that wanted everything to be done in Germany and he wasn't really having that. He says:
It came to the point where [a company from] Germany offered us a $70 million budget, which would have been by far the biggest budget I ever would have had for a movie. But I had to shoot it in Germany and post it in Germany. Nothing against Germany, but I have five kids and I was like, ‘God, I don’t know if we can do that. I don’t know if I can be away that long.’”
And what exactly was he planning for the film? "We had all this artwork and screen tests of what it would look like. It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy—almost like that [1981 animated] movie, ‘Heavy Metal’—version of a ‘Star Wars’ movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great." Sounds pretty great indeed. On the plus side, he does plan to release the artwork online so us fanboys can lap that shit up. Read more about what he had to say over HERE.

I'm fine with this tho, cause the first one was garbage, and didn't need to be remade.
