Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis May. 9, 2009

Exit: Brett Ratner. Enter: James McTeigue?

So sayeth soothsaying reporter/aggressor Devin Faraci over at CHUD, who has it on good authority that the V FOR VENDETTA director and Team Wachowski member will be taking over the sword-sharpening duties for CONAN's latest screen adventure.

We just heard of Ratner's departure the other day, so the producers are clearly anxious to get the Cimmerian death-machine hacking through the Hyborian Age as soon as possible. The project still needs a capable star and some script work, but it's probably safe to assume that would come quickly with the addition of someone like McTeigue.

You may recall that the Wachowskis were attached to a CONAN movie several years ago (the intended sequel KING CONAN: CROWN OF IRON, not thorns), so this would sort of make sense -- McTeigue has been their assistant director since the MATRIX days, and they've obviously collaborated since.

Meh...
I'd rather watch Beastmaster. Never was a Conan fan, even with Arnold.

In the original Conan stories by Robert E. Howard Conan is more of a clever thief (with clothes on) then a half naked barbarian.

I want this movie to be made but not by the Wachowski brothers, after they used the V for Vendetta story for their own political views i don't want them to butcher up the Conan story.

Thanks for the info on Triple H. Nix him. So, who else? Rock Johnson? Doom was a crappy movie, but Johnson showed some decent acting chops (certainly pulled off ruthless well). Karl Urban was also in that flick: how about him, if he bulks up a bit? Anyone else?

Triple H gets shouted out every time a moderately muscular role is needed. No. No no no. Go back to watching wrestlemania, that guy is a terrible actor and doesn't even look the part. If Conan were a viking he might pull it off, but he's not, so he won't.

Sean Bean, maybe? I don't know who should be Conan, but I know one thing for sure: I won't be seeing it if a wrestler gets the role.

But Who Plays Conan?
Who in the world can replace Arnold? Rock Johnson? I can't think of anyone else. Maybe Karl Urban? Perhaps if Zac Efron hits the gym....

Nice. Not my top pick by I like it a lot. McTeigue and the Wachowskis can definitely make a great Conan.

Great choice! As far as finding a lead actor, I'm not convinced the lead has to be a "great" actor. I thought Arnold did a fine job the first time around. I think in this case, the look is most important. A good Director can get a good performance out of a "so-so" (or even bad) actor. Just my opinion.

NINJA ASSASSIN...
Ive seen it (Sneak preview). And let me tell you, it is beyond cool. It is action and blood galore (llike a live action Ninja Gaiden 2 complete w/ dismemberments), and jsut to compare that "Ninja" movie looks like a giant bowl of steaming shit next to it. Anyway, McTiegue would most definitely do Conan justice!!! If this is true, WOW. Believe me, when NA comes out, McTiegue will be as reve...

If this is true
then that is awesome, McTeigue is a great action director, especially since his pedigree is The Matrix. Can't wait for Ninja Assassin and this would be great. Get an awesome Conan and I'm there. They should get the current Conan comic writer to do the story.

I've never seen so many green boxes in the strike backs.

Great news. I hope they go with an unknown. Or at least someone with some real acting ability. Not just someone who is big and therefore fits the part.

this is probably the best director they could have got (besides maybe John Milius). Loved V for Vendetta, can't wait now. Conan is one of my favorite characters. thank you Crom.

I was really hoping we'd get a Cuaron or Boyens type, but McTiege will suffice.
