Conan the Zombie?

Lionsgate is looking to relaunch the CONAN franchise and it's looking like their might be zombies involved. OK not zombies like NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD but Rob Zombie. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Rob Zombie has been having "meetings" with Lionsgate about directing the franchise. Of course they're taking "meetings" with lots of directors about the project but word of Zombie's involvement just happened to leak out. And how did that happen?? If I were a more jaded and cynical person I'd think that Zombie himself leaked the news in hopes positive fan response would give him an edge for the gig. However the news got out, Zombie would be an inspired choice. He could certainly shut up some of his critics who complain about his "white trash fetish" and it certainly would be unexpected to see Zombie leave horror behind to attack a straight-up action flick. But what would it mean to his two-picture deal with Dimension and the rumored TYRANNOSAURUS REX movie? This is still in the very early stages so expect more news at it develops. For now, thoughts?

Extra Tidbit: Just had a brainstorm...how about a movie where RAMBO takes on zombies??

What the fuck?
NO! The guy should not be making movies PERIOD, and you're saying it's a good idea to give him Conan?! I agree with DaForce on this one.

nooooooooooooooo!!!
Can we corral Rob Zombie to the butchering of classic movies in only one genre?

Honestly, I would rather see someone like John McTiernan on this, rather than letting Zombie butcher his way through a story.

If only that could be 100%
That would be amazing for him to do. I would have never guessed that, even though that is a brilliant idea. Can you imagine what it would look like coming from Zombie's head? This would definitely stand tall next to John Milius's vision. Let's keep our fingers crossed on this one, and pray to Krom that this will go into production with Zombie attached!

Sounds...
.. kind of cool. I think he'd bring a gritty realism to it that other's would not.

Nope
I think Zombie should "prove" himself some how. I'm not a fan, but I think hidden in there somewhere is a guy with potential. But then so do most of us.

Zombie isn't right for this project. Most everyone everywhere seems to understand/agree with this and hopefully the right people are reading this.

Like Zombie, but not for this
Rob Zombie did his best work on Halloween, which I've seen 3 cuts of. He's always been associated with horror, so why jump to Conan? I'd rather see him remake some more low-budget horror flicks like CHUD, The Burning, The Prowler or Madman. I'm not saying he's cutting edge or genius either, but it's nice to see a fresh version of old favs. Heck if I had the money, I could make any of those ...

re: x1031x

So, ah, I write "grungier aesthetic" and you somehow read into that, erm, "fuck" and "tit-shots"?

Seriously, is this transference?

Or projection?

hail you, x1031x!
Thank you so much for lambasting Rob Zombie. He sucks. He's not edgy. He's not cool. He's not visionary. I've seen 2 of his 3 so-called "films" and he's just a moron with a love of white-trash psychos and tit-shots. How is that interesting? How is it entertaining? He could splice together Britney Spears news footage with her nip-and-labia slips and call that one of his films. Actually, I think ...

Ugh...

I love it when people hail Rob Zombie as a savior for all those disenfranchised by the Michael-Bay-era of "too-glossy films."

Just because you replace every third word in a script with "fuck" and settle for no less than 8 gratuitous tit-shots before the second act does not make you an edgy or gritty director. It makes you a 12-year old with a camera.

I'd be happy to see him prove me wrong, though. I dig the retro, clunky robots, and golden-age monsters shtick that he's used so well in his music career. I just don't think he has anything to offer as a director.

As long as the writers stick to the original novels (or in turn the dark horse graphic novels) then the movie series will kick amazing amounts of ass. With zombie? Sure, why not. As good of a director as any, and he could probably pull off the different aspects of conan fairly easily.

I'd like to imagine that Tyrannosaurus Rex would be a biopic on Marc Bolan. But I dunno if Zombie directing that would be any good.

I'd argue that Zombie's proven himself to be a surprisingly talented director; and, in this era of too-glossy films, I appreciate his grungier aesthetic all the more.

Hell, I even prefer Zombie's original ending where Michael's final gesture was, largely, ambiguous (was he going to kill them? or did he just want to be with his "family"?).

First of, the whole idea about remaking Conan sucks. Add Rob Zombie to the picture and it REEEEALLLLY SUCKS.
